Tips on purchasing?

Hey all, I'm quite obviously new to these forums and new to this entire car scene for that matter, and I'm looking to buy an MR2 for various reasons (looks fantastic, somewhat rare, chicks dig 'em, fast, yadda). I've got about 10k to spend on this, and I'm hoping for maybe a '93-'95?

Is this enough money to get me a decent one with low mileage or am I out of my league here? I've done some research on prices, but can never tell if I would be getting ripped off so I figure a forum dedicated to these babies would be a great help. Any tips/suggestion/whatever for me would be greatly appreciated!

wow man... thanks! Those were some pretty interesting posts, definately applied to me and made me rethink this decision. I consider myself a pretty solid driver, and while I plan on making this car look good, I don't necessarily plan on hauling ass in it or even pushing it to any limits it may have (i know, something i've never wanted to admit, but in this case, looks before performance =\ ).

Those posts make it sound like this car is not only able to spin out, its PRONE to spin out... is this the case only when speeding? or would this be a problem even following the speedlimit? '

The spin issue is stated so that you will understand that it can happen as well as so that you will respect the characteristics of the car. Porsche 911's are also very prone to spin in the hands of the unsuspecting but in the hands of those who know the characteristics, they too can be some of the fastest handeling cars on the road.

This is not so much an issue of "speeding" but rather exceeding the conditions. Most common is spinning the car in the rain.

Hm... good to know... MR2 is still top of my list, but I've been considering an Eclipse, Celica, or del-Sol since I can make those look pretty niec as well... thanks again for the info man! Let's hope I can get one!
