weird brake problems

On our 97 Grand am, it has a strange brake problem. When the brakes are applied, the back brakes come on way too strong. In fact sometimes in the rain, they will start to skid in the rear, just slowing down to a stop sign. I can also feel the car sink in the rear when the brakes are pressed, so they are for sure coming on too strong. The car does not pull to one side or the other & the fronts seem to be functioning ok. Tonight I pulled the rears apart, & to my surprise, everything looked great. No dirt or oil in the drums, Pads are about 80% drums seemed fine. Is this some type of proportioning problem?

Thanks

Hey, I have the same exact problem on the girlfriends car. Been playing with it for quite some while. Typical squatting in the rear when you apply the brakes lightly and no matter what you adjust/bleed you end up with the same results.

Please let me know when/if you find anything to cure this problem!

Thanks,
Joe

had the same problem for a year.. they said my shoes were okay, but maybe a little old. They replaced both my shoes and wheel cylinders and the problem hasn't occured since.
