alrite, i was originally going to purchase a G35 coupe when i came home from school in december. i love the car, its gorgeous, and i can totally purchase it.
on a whim i looked up some cars on craigslist when i came across a 2002 M3, 55k miles with an SMG gearbox for 30k. 30k!!!! the miles are largely attributed to the guy visiting his gf in LA (1k round trip pretty much all highway) and is funny because that would chaulk up the majority of my miles. he said he was selling it because he got a sweet deal on an e55.
so here is my dilemna, which car?
a 2002 black M3 hardtop with SMG tranny for 30k BUT it has 50k miles.
or a 2004 G35 coupe with a 6 speed and little to no miles (brand new or less than 5k)
i want to hear your thoughts on the M3 with this many miles. how do you think it fares? the warranty has run out, is 55k on an e46 something to worry about?
I am well aware the M3 crushes the G35 in all aspects, its just the miles i am worried about.
I would definetely take this car into a dealer to have it looked over before handing over any money, but driving around a high mileage car with no warranty scares me. the seller has all service records.
thanks guys

E46 M3 would be the best way to go. no matter how bad ass the G35 looks, your comparing an AWD 3.0L V6 280hp japanese car, and a 3.2L inline 6 333hp german engineered car.

With 55K miles on the vehicle, I believe you could possibly bring the vehicle into the dealer and have them perform a certified pre-owned inspection on the vehicle, upping the warranty to 6 years or 100,000 miles from the production date of the vehicle (doesn't cover trim items, nav or audio system items and wear and tear items). Don't quote me on this, but I know it happens. Also BMWNA has extended the warranty on all 2001, 2002, and up to 9/03 production M-cars with the S54 engine to 6 years or 100,000 miles from your production date. Good luck. :)
