Enginve reving problem

Recently i have been experiencing a very big problem with my 1998 ford ranger extended cab. It has a 4 cylinder engine. For some reason when i press in the clutch to switch gears the engine revs up to very high rpms. Until i come to a complete stop or put it back in gear the engine will not stop reving up to full rpms. Please help me fix this problem. Replace the throttle position sensor.

I have a 96xlt and changed the TPS even when it tested good. At first it didn't seem to make a difference but haven't had any idle issues lately. it's about 35& and a pain to change

What makes it so hard to change???

Where is it?

It's located on the throtlle body, which is a pain to take on and off. It's on the back close the firewall and windshield. There's an electrical connector. Once you get the throttle body off (4 bolts) the there are two screw holding on the sensor. I could not get these out even with a Hitachi cordless high power drill. I luckily was able to use visegrips to turn them very slowly. They were siezed up.
