I wish I had a Y8... This ZC has been a pain in the ass and it takes up ALL the room under my hood so its a pita to get to anything! But hell at least its drivable now.

Oh, I can get you a D18Y8 but its going to cost you... $900 at Golden Eagle MFG for new sleeves another $1200ish for pistons and rods and figure about $2000 for all the machining thats going to need to happen, all that and the cost of the motor + $20 an hour for my time and I will get you a D18Y8.

why do all that? just find a newer one. i was VERY lucky to find mine so cheap. it came out of an '00 EX so it only had 15,000mi. i was able to get it for $500. expect with that low miles to be as much as $900. but that is low miles and not dealing with all the bs mentioned above

i think he was talking about making the 1.6 liter to a 1.8 liter. so you could call it a d18y8.

Thx all, I have other ques, for ladieinred like what is the hp that you put out with the d16, reason why I want to go d16 cause everyone goes b18 and deals with all the motor mount crap. I just want a bolt on that will go in easy. Do you race your car at all or do you autox? And 500 bucks for that motor hmm that's coo. Should I look at my local Junk yard? Or buy new from the Honda?

the specs for that engine are:
1590cc
Compression ratio: 9.6:1
Power: 127 bhp @ 6600
Redline: 7200 rpm
Torque: 107 lb-ft @ 5500

i don't ever race my car at the track. every now and again i'll mess around with friends on the open highway...but not much. my car can take other cars within hp reason. to be honest, my clutch is the cherry on the top...that extra pull.

i choose the y8 becuase it does drop right in. you can even use a dx tranny if you want. although you might want to consider finding a si tranny

you can look at junkyards, ask around, or look around swap shops. a lot of shops pull them out of a car for something bigger and then resale the pulled engine. new from honda will be spendy.

I have the y8 and love it...picked up the motor and trans from a 97ex with 90,000mi...for 500....sold the hydro trans for 200 then traded a dizzy for an Si trans... all set!! very quick! I have seen them in junkyards for anywhere from 500 to 1000 (miles vary). I picked mine up on ebay believe it or not...just luck, the seller was close to me...the guy even delivered it to the shop for me! Good luck,

y8 = uplift mofo positivity :smokin:

Same motor as the Y8 and less expensive is the Z6. I have one, love it, and picked it up for $475 locally, w/only 80K mi. on it. I love that is swapped in so easy, and it pulls hard. I definitely agree with Ami on having a good clutch. I can feel that more power is being delivered to the wheels at takeoff. There is no comparison between my centerforce and the OEM Honda one that is in my ZC powered hatch. It's like night and day. Definitely shell out for a good clutch!

Edit... Before I get beat up over it, yes, I realize that the Y8 and Z6 are slightly different...

you won't get beat up unless you pull the z6 for a b16 :smokin: :evillol:

generally when somebody asks i tell them about both. since he started with the y8 i figured i would preach on. you are 100% correct, the d16z6 can be found cheaper becuase it's out of the "older" 92-95 si/ex. specs on that are:

1590cc
Compression Ratio: 9.2:1
Power: 125 bhp @ 6600
Redline: 7200 rpm
106 lb-ft @ 5200

ami, or anyone that has the y8, do u know if it'll smoke a 98 Integra LS? I've seen that same integra loss to a STOCK 91 CRX Si :) I just want to know how bad i'll beat the kid. Oh, btw, he has an auto, not manual. I'm getting my y8 swap done for 400(USA) bucks or less n' it'll be done in a day :)
