Thermostat Housing near bleeder screw

I know you can buy the part from Honda, and replace it. But what will happen when i undo the two screws there? Will there be a bit of a leak of coolant?

Which are you talking about water outlet or t/stat housing? upper rad hose connects to water outlet w/ bleeder screw, lower rad hose connects to t/stat housing w/ no bleeder. I assume you mean the water outlet. Before doing anything, remove the radiator cap then drain all the coolant from the drain in the radiator(petcock) and then change parts as needed. Yes some coolant will drip, no matter what you do. When re-filling the coolant, fill until full, start engine with rad cap off & add some more until you cant anymore, then cap the radiator & let the engine warm-up until the fan comes on then shuts off, after that crack open the bleeder slightly to release any air pockets.
You may need to add more coolant - do not remove the rad. cap while its hot unless you've done it before, not my fault if you get burnt. Wait til it's cool & add if needed.

On the water outlet, Is there a gasket that needs to go with it? and second, I've never messed with my radiator yet, but on other cars I have. Is the drain plug right under the radiator on civics?

Yes there is a gasket - yes the plug is on the bottom of the radiator

Plug is on the bottom pass side corner of the rad.

For those who bleed their own radiators of air. How much do you tighten your bleeder bolt to prevent coolant leak? I dont have a torque wrench.. so I have to kind of go by feel. Would you say about when you cant hand tighten the bolt, and then about 1/8 of a turn?

You dont need a torque wrench to tighten the bleeder screw - just make it tight. I'd say hand tight then 1/4 to 1/2 turn but I never pay attention, I know its tight when its tight :icon16:

yea.. but about 1/2 a turn was what i did and i freakin broke off the shaft for the bleeder screw. But then again... 13 year old car, and old parts. Go figure.

the clamp wasnt on low enoguh on mine if your radiator is leaking check that you hafta take off the fan though its a pain without taking it off
