Poor Paint (spider web/chipping)

I have a 2003 Tiburon, dark blue. I have been so happy up until recently when I found two spots on my hood starting to web out under the clear (clear feels rough now). The paint looks as if it will chip any moment. I found another spot on the driver side panel behind the rear window. That area is a small cluster of the same looking web like cracks. At a quick glance, they look like hard water spots, but up close they are not.

Hyundai is trying to say it is a foreign substance that got on the paint and is working its way into the clear. A local body and paint shop that I have done business with and is reputable said it is contamination under the paint that was on the metal before painting which has now tried to surface. Other people like car detailers and friends that have had similar issues with painted vehicles all agree it is a paint defect. Only Hyundai is not agreeing.

I need specfic paint issues by customers experiencing the same problem. I have read other forums with Hyundai cars 1999 to present with paint problems similar to mine. I may have to take legal action if enough people have true claims so I can show my attorney I am not alone in this situation.

Please comment if you have a similar problem.

hyundai paint has never been good. if it a 2003, it should be covered under warranty. the individual dealers will always try to do some shit like that, but just write to hyundai headquarters by email or something and they will get it taken care of.

I have still yet to hear from the Service Manager and/or his boss...the owner of the Hyundai Dealership. I have done all the calling to try and resolve this. They say..."we'll call you back" and they don't.

dont go to the dealer. you gotta write to the corporation or call them to get this fixed. sounds like a case of the corrupt dealer.

In 2002 I had the top portion of my 2001 tib repainted by the dealer ship. It took awhile but it was worth it. They had to give me a loaner car while they had my car. The paint is covered under the warranty so they have to comply. Stop calling and take it down to them. The regional rep has to take a look at it, so they have to set up an appointment for you. I hope this helps out.

The dealer will help you.. The broke theire neck to help me when a spot appeared under my back hatch window on the trunk.. This was caused from salt water when the car was shipped from Korea. Tiburons are true imports shipped on boats from south korea. The salt water got down in the hatch crack tween the window and hatch and caused a small rust chip like spot. My dealer had it's collision center repair it promptly and it was all under warranty. The dealer owner Mr Sid Johnson even came down to look at it. If they wont help just go above to the next higher in the chain. By the time it gets to the dealer owner it will be resolved. This IS a warranty issue. Hope you get some good results.

Boricua_tiburon is also right with the Regional Rep having to come in and look at it. The Regional Rep came to look at mine as well.
