Would a 92-95 Civic motor fit in a 96 Ford Escort LX? Or what good motor would be a good swap, because performance parts for the 2nd gen. is hard to find and it would make it easier for a motor that usually has performance parts.

i have a 94 lx 2dr and i was looking to put a new motor in it but i dont know what to do. i heard that the 1.8 was a mazda motor with dohc it puts out 132hp and if you where to rebuild it and bore it i bet you could get 160ish cheaply..............maybe? but if you come up with something better let me know! and if any one reads this and knows about how much it would cost to bore a 1.8 could you let me know?

a motor swap to a 1.8 litre is not that easy. wiring harness and computer would have to be done. i am currently rebuilding a 1.8l and it is not as cheap as i thought. a head set without bolts is about $300 Canadian. as far as horsepower they were only 127hp from factory. there is not a lot of performance upgrades as far as buying parts off the shelf from a store but simple things like buying a mass air flow sensor from a mazda rx-7. it has 3" in and 3" out to your throttle body. it will add 8hp to the wheels immediately, but the sensor has to be tuned. short ram intakes are available from Toucan Industries. cam gears, crank pulley, chip, fuel pressure regulator, turbo manifold and turbo from 89 323/gtx. if you look hard enough there is a lot.
