I've got a 2000 maxima with 75000 miles. My check engine light came on awhile ago and the car is missing intermittantly. I took it to a dealer and they told me I needed new coils. I balked at the price and they came back a day later and told me it wasn't bad coils but the mass airflow sensor. They changed it out but about one day later the missing is back and check engine light is back on.
No way I'm going back to that dealer so I start to investigate myself. I wanted to read the fault code from the OBD system. Turns out that my cars computer has no port for a diagnostic tool and it doesn't have a switch to enable the readout on the dash light either(jsut an empty hole where the switch should be. So... am I screwed or what?
Anybody else run into this? Any ideas on how to retrieve the fault code?
Any ideas on what could be causing the missing?
Really appreciate your help!

if it's the same as the 3.5L there should be a plug right under the steering wheel. it's hard to feel for it, you probably gotta get on your back and look.

Go to your local autozone, they might be able to find it/read it. Also, go here: http://maxima.theowensfamily.com/tsb/
and check. Then go to your dealer and screw their brains out to change the coils for free, cuz it's a TSB (ya, it's out of warranty but worth a try)
