Job Description:
To create and validate Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Power Train Cooling (HVAC/PTC) component designs and specifications that are customer driven, comprehend program imperatives and meet program timing.
Typical Duties:
· Responsible for all designs and specifications on assigned components.
ü Generate AVO’s and work with designers to provide direction on design criteria.
ü Create and maintain Engineering Parts List.
ü Create Quality Check sheet.
ü Create ADV plan.
ü Create DFMEA.
· Support Advanced Purchasing Section on Tier II Supplier selection.
ü Prepare specifications for design responsible components.
ü Participate in supplier technical reviews.
ü Work with suppliers to resolve technical issues.
ü Participate in supplier audits to qualify new suppliers.
· Responsible for establishing and meeting engineering design timing requirements on all product design releases.
· Tracks and reports progress of design activity.
· Supports vehicle level Product Development Team (PDT).
ü Provide timing and input on assigned tasks.
ü Reviews and updates the deliverables matrix for responsible components to reflect accurate deliverables status.
ü Represent the PDT in various Customer meeting forums.
· Leads Technical Design Reviews relative to assigned components per program plan.
ü Peer Review, Phase Evaluation Review, etc.
· Communicates engineering direction and change throughout the organization.
ü Change Evaluation Forms, Part Sign-Off (Builds, Mock up)
· Lead technical interface with Tier II Suppliers.
· Insure Subsystem and Component Specifications are defined, communicated and validated.
· Stay current with product development and trends in area of expertise.
· Provide engineering support to insure a successful program launch
Component Design Engineer
Qualifications Preferred and Training Required:
· BSME and 3 years HVAC/PTC test and development experience or Associates degree and 5 years test and development experience.
· Understands CAD-CAM-CAE capabilities
· Has functional knowledge of HVAC/PTC Systems.
· Understands customer requirements (quality and timing)
· Has overall understanding of vehicle packaging/architecture and integration
· Strong interpersonal and communications skills
ü Fluent written and oral communication skills in the English language
· Team building and leadership abilities
· Understands future product and process technology
· Fundamental knowledge of planning, scheduling and controlling
· Problem solving skills
· Understanding of Customer Program Development Process i.e. GM Global Vehicle Development Process (GVDP) preferred.
· Understanding of design variation (GD&T)
