Ok I'm not going to name any names but I've noticed this while reading a lot of posts on the 240sx forum.

Some of you guys that dont own 240sx's yet talk about all the mods you are going to do when you get them and how awesome and fast you're gonna make them. But then the same people are the ones that are always complaining on not being able to afford a 240sx right now. Or they cant find one cheap enough.

I know they are kinda rare and the people who are selling them want alot for them, but do you think that once you finally find the right car you are going to able to afford parts? I mean some of the stuff you guys talk about are engine swaps and teins and all that other stuff.

I guess I'm just tired of all the talk about engine swaps.

IM going to find me a s13 without an engine and drop in a S15 sr20 with a T51 kai spl! Go 6 speed power

that be hella tite, Ill be able to afford it in about ohhhhh 5-6 years realistically lmfao.......

I actually do not see how a lot of people can afford SR20's, the more I think about it spending 3-5k on JUST the junkyard engine is a f'n waiste. Of Course a lot of people are born with silver spoons though too and get about anything they want lol..... I almost feel sorry for these people cause they do not know what its like to want something and earn it. oooohh daddy please buy me that new STI so I can look cool at school and smoke all my honda friends..... pathetic

im tired of the engine swap talking too.

that's why i don't post here anymore. it's because everyone who talks about doing the swap is 15, can't even drive, doesn't have a job, doesn't have any money, and it's just some dream of their because they read it in super street, want to follow what their friends are doing, and don't even know anything about cars.

that's pathetic.

^ yep. I was seriously planning to get an SR20 swap though, since it has a stock turbo and fast as shat stock but i found out they weren't really reliable. I think i'm just going to keep my KA now, maybe turbo it but I'll wait and see, have so many others up on the list first. It is annoying how ppl keep talking about swaps, they say they're goin to do it yet they don't know wtf it is or what to do.

oh well whateva doesn't bother me what some 15 year old dreams about and won't really do cause instead of 3k for SR20 he could get a really sweet fang kit lol. I love 240s and have been bored then dreamed about what i'd do to one but i know after my civic is done next car will be a Rx-7 or 5.0 LX finish that then 240s will be like 25 years old and only handful left. i'll probbly never have one but its ok to dream.

on another note, i think it's ok to dream. everyone's car started out with a dream. i will agree that these 15 year olds talking about s15 swaps are annoying, but it's a result of the recent increase in hype on the 240. i bet that a year before the fast and furious came out, civic tuners were in the exact situation we're in now. there are so many gay civics out there, but there are also a lot of clean, hella fast, very well tuned civics that get overlooked. if you say to someone who's not into honda that you own a civic, they will immediatly assume you are a ricer.
maybe that is the the future for the 240.
it would suck, but it would have its benefits. our cars would have a very high resale value, parts would be more common, maybe nissan would take notice and bring the silvia back to the states?

i'm 18.

i want an SR20 swap.

i HAVE wanted an SR20 swap for years now, before all the ricers knew what it was.

maybe i won't be able to afford it for a while after i get my car, but so what?

is it so wrong to aspire to something in the future?

are you guys telling me you don't have reachable plans or dreams for your cars?

yeah, the ones who don't know shit and are like "Sr20 y0!" deserve this thread, but us honest guys who know our shit and will actually do the swap sometime in the future don't.

just because i'm hard on cash, you're going to hold it against me?

that's kind of rude...

as if this forum needed to be anymore elitest.

if you want to stop posting here because a bunch of whiny little newbies are getting you down, then so be it. but with your contributions, this place COULD get better...leaving is just rolling over and letting them win.

whatever. there's my thoughts on the matter.

I have a 240sx, and I actually do plan on doing the sr20det swap this coming summer. By saying "plan", I mean that once I pay off the small loan I took out to get the car, I will be taking out another to do all of the work I want to do. I will be doing it, unless something crazy happens and I wont be able to.

The reason I post Q's about swapping are because I want to learn and know everything that is needed to know.

Suislide
11-21-2003, 05:36 PM
BLU - no. the ricers are the ones who hear the engine code, and want the swap purely so that their car will be "JDM TyTe y0!". they only know the engine code and know nothing about it or how to tune it and only want it to gain respect...

if they want the engine because it's a good engine or to gain power for racing etc. then much respect.

Hopefully that wasnt directed towards me. I do admit, my parents helped me out at first but they never bought me a car. They co-signed loans and helped me with a downpayment on my FIRST car, but after that, I bought cars, fixed them up, sold them, made profits, and bought something better.

Right now, at only 2 weeks from being 21, I have extremly good credit and could probably go buy an STi by myself if I wanted. And that is all because my parents taught me how to get and maintain good credit.

If you are refering to me in any way...yes I have been a forum member for what is soon to be 6 months and still have had no 240sx in any of that time. I will have one soon though or another decent car, but most likely a 240sx and [finally] the cavalier will be gone and forgotten.

I don't plan to make my car very fast...240-260hp on a car that weighs 2700-2800 pounds isn't that insane. All I want is passing power and enough power to have fun with. I don't care about spinning the tires all day or having an 11 second car. That stuff bores me...If I wanted that then I would be looking to purchase an american car with the huge torque of a v8 which really helps spin the wheels or get a supra/rx7/other sports car to get an 11 second car...the 240sx is not a sports car and wasn't really intended to be an amazing car...it's just a liveable car that people on a budget can enjoy and it has the capacity to be a very good competitor against much more expensive cars...though it may not be as fast or handle as well...

My car purchase and mod list shouldn't break 10k and since I make over double that each year and my only bill is car insurance...I think I can manage paying for it...Hell I may even buy an s13 as a backup/scew around car...

You also have to understand I have to build up enough credit on my own to purchase a 5-9 thousand dollar car that is approaching 10 years old. Most likely I will find no one to cosign so I HAVE to wait until spring/summer...even if I find one now I'm shit out of luck unless it's about 3 grand (an s14 for 3k around here would be an amazing find)...

Just because you have had opportunities, doesn't mean we all have. I'm sure many people on the board will do something similar to what they plan...but if they don't it's not because they weren't planning to...it's because life got in the way...Things happen (like pregnancy, bills, loss of job, etc) that either increase the wait or completely remove the ability to purchase and modify a car like a 240sx. Making goals takes exponentially less time than completing them.

I just want something I can thrash around and have fun with. A Toyota Cressida looks like mey first car.

I dream often of having a hatch with the Koguchi power kit, and fully built SR etc. etc. but sometimes I take a step back and wonder...why dump close to 9grand into something I will only realisitically drive for a few years and sell. I could invest that 9grand and pay tuition and take a huge financial burden of my parents, or pay rent on a place of my own, or go travel.

Yep, i hate that shit. A lot of ppl do that, their parents buy em new cars and they are like "Yeah, i have the best car ever." Well I say it's not technically yours until you buy it, I had a 92 Civic DX that my parents bought me but I had the biggest urge to want my own car so I worked and dropped it on a 240sx. some of my friends setup a meet in Sacramento about a month and a half ago. It was pretty big, and a couple different clubs/forums were invited. VWs, Bimmers, Hondas, Toyotas, Nissans, and Mazdas. Well, the worst guy there, was a kid about 18 years old who had a sileighty conversion, with an SR, exhaust, front mount FMIC, Tein coilovers, rims, and a nice loud blow off valve. He talked so much smack to everyone. He asked one of my friends who had swapped a 20valve 4ag into his 85 corolla, and when my friend said he had 4AG 20 valve, he said "Thats it?" Then he went around asking people what they had done to their cars and commenting like he was the king of them all because they were not as cool as him in his sileighty 240. He said, "I'm the fastest one here." One of my other friends who was in attendence happened to own a 99 VR6 GT-I turbo. There were nice WRXs there as well. Guess he had no idea what they were. He drove around letting off his blow off valve. The kicker? His parents bought him the car. Someone else had done the swap, the front end conversion, and the rest of the mods.

Anyways, a week or so later, I guess he ends up at another drift meet, and follows some other guys out to a spot they usually go to. He was bragging up and down how he could drift. Well, when they got there, one of the other guys went first and hit a couple turns pretty nicely. After him, the other guys told the idiot kid it was his turn to show them how good he was. After kind of hesitating, he jumps in his car and turns it on. He revs it up loudly, and takes off towards the turn. He tries to slide, fucks up completely and understeers right off the road into some bushes. Everyone laughed their asses off and left when that happened. No one knows what happened to him after he ran into the bushes.

As for myself I have owned my 240 for over 2 years, and owned a heavily modfied integra for over 5. (Also owned a 3TC 81' corolla before the integra, and yes it was rear wheel drive) All which I bought and modified myself (money for parts)(installations all done by me...cams, clutches, manifolds, etc.). Yeah, I'm from the old school. Back when the white guys use to make fun of us in our "Rice rockets" with our "Nip Tips". I find it funny now because the majority of Honda drivers are white.

480 stock, as opposed to only 370 for the s13/s14 sr

that was too easy... that info is everywhere... here, I have one... where are the two top tranny bolts located on the SR and KA tranny, what size are they? and how do you remove them? If you people do your own so called swaps, you should know this one, actually this should be a breeze. If you don't, then go learn.

thats a good one but unfortunately only people who have done swaps would know so I admit that i don't know that one but he was right about the injector info. its easily found at srswap.com

And at my site :P.

Damn, I gotta add more info on those engines...I was just realizing how little info some engines have for them. Specs aren't really the reason people visit though...so fuck it for now...maybe next months update...maybe januaries.

I'll agree...I have zero swap experience and limited wrench experience working on engines and cars for that matter. I'm mechanically inclined...I just have no decent car to sink money into...I should have a bit more experience this summer or next summer when the (soon to be) infamous ka-t kills all in maine. Probably next summer...since this summer will be mostly about getting used to what I like and don't like about the car in stock form and seeing if I can live without a beater in the winter and then next spring/summer will be about modifying.

Ricers will cry, domestics will catch on fire, and women and children will run in fear. FEAR THE KA-T!

at the top of the bellhousing, get a couple sockets and see which one fits, start taking shit apart........... its not really THAT hard to take things off a car lol, common sense and remeber how things go is really all you need personally. Information on what your doing and the proper tools for job just make it that much more simpler.

I almost feel sorry for these people cause they do not know what its like to want something and earn it. oooohh daddy please buy me that new STI so I can look cool at school and smoke all my honda friends..... pathetic

I take offence to that because number 1 my dad lives in Ireland and my mom is died so parents will not be buying me anything. I got a sr20 redtop front clip for 2400 bux bought the car for 1600 bucks and bought the Tein He's for 1200 bucks which I paid for out of my own money on top of I live alone and I also just bought a 2000 Suzuki GSXR 600. I work hard for my money as an Information Technologist for Black Oak Casino in California. I am 21 now was living on my own at 17. Not everyone that can buy a sr20 gets it from their parents.

i paid for my stuff too, but then again i bought a used turbo kit with a crappy turbo and my car looks like it was made from several different cars. I like it and everything but now the price of up keep has increased, more parts go bad, i dont drive it much cause i think the engine is going to blow up. Now i gotta spend money to get it painted and the interior smells like ass because my brother threw up in it. Thats why i said im gonna opt for something else. I created a beast that is totaly opposite of what i wanted, its unreliable, ugly, and expensive to maintain. Im actualy thinking of buying a Mustang 5.0 or a LT1 trans am. Dont say there unreliable because i have first hand experiance that there not, and i dont need a car that is a canyon carver, were i live i only need to be fast in a straight line, plus i love having massive torque.

Wow, seems we have a little pent aggression. Why does this have to be a competition? Why do I have to have completed 19 swaps before I can drop the SR20 into my car? Why can't I be the enthusiast, with love for his car, who just wants to take that next step? I mean jeez, if you don't like reading about swaps don't. I've wanted my swap for about a year and a half now, and no I couldn't afford it. That doesn't mean that it wont happen, in fact my baby is going in on the 29th. So whats that mean, just cuz I can't buy an STI or a friggin EVO that I have no place in the import scene? To tell you the truth, I would pick my 172k mile 240 over an EVO any day of the week. I love my car, this isn't about a rivalry Nissan v. Honda.... domestic v. import... who really cares? Do what you want to do and don't let anyone stop you. Nuts to the people that tell you you are wasting your time and money. It is your hobby, flat out, so once again, if you dont like reading about swaps, DON'T!!! If you don't like SR or RB motors. then get the hell out of the section. I mean... common sense here. Moral of the story, you do your thing and I'll do mine, but d*mn, stop being such a kill joy, you sound like my mother.

Congratulations, you brought up a thread that started in november of last year. On your first post. Who are you even talking to? Dayna? PM her if you have a problem with her, don't dig up three month old thread.

guys, don't make such a big deal out of a three month old thread.

3 year old threads, like that jack-ass earlier today, now that's understandable. but 3 months isn't that bad.

with that said, even though this thread isn't that old, it IS relativley pointless to add your :2cents: this long after the arguement...if it were an information thread and you had added a valuable piece of info to it, then it would've been fine, but since it's this thread...i'm gonna lock it.

Brian
