Hey all, I've been searching all over this forum, and have not been able to find a direct answer. I have a customer who wants to put a new motor in an 89 Prelude Si. I know that these cars have a B20 in them, but I don't know how similar it is to the other B-series motors, and if a B18C or B16A can be swapped in. Has anyone on this forum done this? Does the ECU need changed? Can it be run OBD0? What about stuff like the tranny bolting up, axles, mounts, etc? It seems like the B-series stuff should work right and all, but I want to make sure before I order the guy a motor and get in over my head.
Thanks! :iceslolan

If your going to put a b16 in there, run the b16 computer and full wiring harness. since its a b20 in a prelude and u put a b series from a civic or integra into the lude, the mounts will have to be changed .

No you cant bolt in other b-series engines without major modification. The b20a5 was designed to slant torward the firewall to allow the hood to have such a low profile (lowest profile on the market). If you were to swap in another type of honda engine it would be the H22a because that's just what people have been doing. And it costs upwards of 7 grand!! That is a realistic here, i'm not inflating it to scare you. If your customer wants to swap in another motor, it should be the JDM b20a (ba4 prelude). Any other swap is territory for pioneers. If you want more information, go to www.preludepower.com and search under "3rd gen" and type in whatever you want to search for (i.e.: engine swaps). Hope that helped (truth wise).
