parking lights problem

I have a 1995 firebird, and today when i went to turn on the parking lights, my headlights popped up, but the lights weren't on. The lights do turn on when you turn the knob, but they shouldn't pop up when you turn them the first click. Also, now when i turn the lights off, the driver side light makes a loud grinding noise and the manual open knob spins until you stop it with your hand. Any one have any idea what the problem is? I'm guessing the knob keeps spinning because something isn't hitting the control knob right, but ive got no idea on the parking light prob.

My 94 lids always have popped up when just the parking lights come on. The grinding noise you hear is a stripped gear. There are some free fixes on the Internet for that problem. Apparently the gear that opens the lid is a full circle and there is a damaged tooth or teeth on the side that is being used. You can turn the gear around so that the broken tooth isnt being used.
