Im thinking about changing over to mustang

Hello, first of all let me mention, right now I drive a lexus sc400 (1995). Yeah, im also 17, my mom gave me the car when i turned 16 and bought herself a new one. The only problem is now, that i dont care about luxury, im slow and the mods are outragous (2000 bucks for exhaust) and you get almost no horsepower gains. Also there is so much sound deadening material that the subwoofers dont hit hard at all. I love the car a lot, but i just think its more of a car for an old person. So im going to get a new car in about a month... so far i have been researching what i really want which is basically a fast reliable car that sounds good, has lots of mods, and easy to make fast. Right now im leaning towards a 5.0 mustang lx or b18 civic dx. My question to all the veteran stangers out there is... what would it take to make a bone stalk mustang lx into a 13.2 second car? I have about 8000 bucks to spend.

Thanks!

$8,000?!?!?!?!!? Wow, you can make your (hopefully soon to be) stang run high 12's with the right conditions. I mean 4K for the car and 4K for mods....
P.S.- with mustangs exhuast doesnt cost 2,000 dollers, dont worry.

ok if you got that car you should keep it! you can swap in a supra TT motor from a mk VI supra nice ass motor power is there so what hell i wished i had a car like that. Plus you can take out deadener. If you do want a stang or civic you can get one real quick for 8k. but i'd say go with a motor swap on yours its probbly going to burn your wallet to do it but then you got one hell of a motor that can push 800 horses.

Getting a V-8 into the 13's isn't all that difficult. Getting an I-4 into the 13's takes alot more effort. Although the 4 cylinder performance segment is growing but part of the attraction is trying to go faster than v8. However, V8's have an inherent advantage. They make almost twice as much horsepower and torque.

I expect to get flamed for this, but if you want a real sportscar you need an 8 or 6 cylinder car. The current trend is to advertise high specific output such as 100 hp/liter. However, that is like saying I got D's and F's in all the classes I ever took except for that one time I got an A. When you average it out, you still have a shitty G.P.A. A real sports car needs to have a high average horsepower rating. This is because you don't drive at 8,000 R.P.M. all day.

so far i have been researching what i really want which is basically a fast reliable car that sounds good, has lots of mods, and easy to make fast....fast relialble is an oxymoron...the faster u make it the less reliable its gunna be so it depends what u want man...uv got 8G's thats sweet but how are u gunna buy a new ride{parents?} if u want a 1/4 mile car{used im asuming} i personally would get a fire bird or a camaro. if u want an auto cross, taking turns at high speeds car get an import{the impreza wrx are phat} and at ur 16 a lexus with a badass system and a big back seat migth be to ur advantage man u can t fit to many girls in the back of a stang...so throw tvs in the headrest buy 4 12's and get some nice rims and stand buy ur car in a big crowd {yeah be that guy lol} it depends on what ur looking for

i'm used to imports and new to domestics, and a b18 civic wouldn't respond that well to mods. it would take a lot of money to get it to run 13's, 8 K wouldn't be enough.

Wrong the 2gz-gte (supra twin turbo engine) is a) very expensive and b) will costs a lot to push enough horsepower. also the wiring in the lexus is a BITCH i mean seriosuly... i would have to buy a 200 dollar book on the wires, almost no one knows about it in america. Also, on the clublexus forums there are guys pushing well over 550 horsepower and are still in the 12s this is with 25k plus spent on the turboing. The only thing i could do worhtwhile to the lexus is a supercharger.. which is 8k alone. =(

big bog.. i like the name its similar to mine. Anyway, i do agree with you fast cars usually break down. But i mean im not going for forced induction only simple botons and engine internals. Also, the lexus is very cramped its not a big car at all the sc400 is the sport coupe haha. Anyway i love the car a TON.. its just all my friends kill me in races and well.. i love the mustang community.. im def getting a stang now =).. anyone know of a good website that has project cars? i would like to see what some people's setups and see what they are using to run like 13.4s.

PS the fastest car at our school runs a 13.4 thats why i wana run that one so bad.

I don't agree with that statement, that the faster you make the car, the less reliable it is. If the work is done properly, you take care of your car with regular maintenance, and don't abuse it, the car will last a long time. I have almost 30k miles on my new motor and the thing has never given me any problems, and shows no signs of aging.

OK now to the main question. A 5.0 Mustang is probably one of the best bangs for the buck you can bye. They are relatively cheap in price, extremely easy to modify, and have one of the biggest after-market followings in the industry. For the 8 grand you have, you will have one heck of a ride!

How am i wrong. Well if you find 280 not alot. The fact that the supra motor is nearly bullet proof and can push tons of boost with stock inside still. 550 spending 25k what are they doin? 12s are damned fast esp for a big car like that. so i guess your looking for insane amounts of power then i guess you would want a big block ford. Can i have your lexus then?

I have to agree with the moderator go for a 93 stang the upgrade parts for this car a far cheaper than that of your average import. You get lots of bang for your buck. Stay away from the 4.6, :nono: upgrade parts are a lot more expensive. :grinno:

you get a 85-93 5.0 and for less than $5k i'll have you in the 10s. Just a simple rebuild and a good jerk on the wiring harness will releive a big headache. However, you may have to spend a couple hundred on rewiring your gauges and such.

I'd get a 89-92 if you want all out speed. If you want some style, 94-95, though they don't come with forged pistons. That could be a problem if you decide to spray. If you wanna look good doing burnouts, get a 99+ SOHC GT, put a 100 shot, gears, slicks, and run 12s all day.
