How do i reset the engine light and get rid off the codes?

Unhook the battery terminal for a couple minutes and you'll be good to go. But I would get the code pulled so you know why the ECU triggered it. Ignoring unknown CEL's is not a good thing. Also, if you don't fix it more than likely the computer will throw the code again within a day of driving.

How do i get the codes out off the system, after i fix the problem.

After the problem is fixes, usually the codes won't be brought back up. When you fix the problem, the battery is normally unhooked anyways, so it get's rid of the codes. But if the problem is fixed, then the codes won't be brought back up again.

the codes can be pulled off with a scanner (snap on sells them for a few grand I think) =] Dealership or full service shop should be able to pull them.

Every DSM should come with a bigass "www.vfaq.com" sticker right on the steering wheel. Go to that site, and click on "Retrieving Diagnostic Error Codes" under the Electrical section. ;) On some cars there is a trick you do with the key to get the check engine light to flash the codes out. Some searching will find out what cars and how. I believe this is for the non turbo 2Gs. Also, if you have anyone local with a datalogger, they can all read trouble codes as well. If your car is a 2g, or any 95-96 and up car, it is OBDII. Again, dataloggers can get the codes, and some autoparts store chains (like Autozone) will pull the codes for you for free, hoping you'll buy whatever part caused the light (95% of the time its the O2 sensor ;) )
