I don't know if this question has been asked before, and if it has, I'm sorry, but I was wonderin', what is the best car to start with?

I bought a Miata, since it looked like a much better handler than the Cruiser. I used that little Mazda for about five race series till I had enough bread to buy an STi. Good little car; has 345 HP now.

How did you get the money to buy one, you only start out with 18,000 or something like taht...

Yeah, I didn't think that you had enough money from the start to get and EVO.
Anyways, I started out with the Miata, and that first race, where you get like $1000 and its the Super Speedway, I did that race 45 times, did no mods to the Miata, and then bought a Corvette. I killed everything for a while, then I got some mods, and then killed everything, and now I have that Corvette, and about 50 other Skylines, Vipers, etc. and I still use the Corvette a lot.

oh cuz i got golds in the liscense tests, so i sold that car, i think it was a miata, so i had like 30g or something so it was enough.

Oh, I didn't get golds in any of the lisences. I'm not that good yet. I have all Silver now. Most of the time I'm only like .1 or 2 off and that just isn't good enough.

if you start with a pt cruiser you can kick ass for a while, then go onto the first cup on super speedway and get £31,000 for a ford mustang. my mustang kicked butt and has now got 749 hp :)

I stared with a Skyline V-Spec II .I got the first 3 license all gold. No cheats. Sold all the cars to buy the Skyline. I also had money left over to upgrade the car with some atermarket parts,It had about 700+Hp at the first race I raced in!

What GT-Fan Viper said is what I did. I got the PTcruiser first, kicked some ass, and when I had enough, I sold it and got the mustang. kicked some ass with that untill I won the C5R. then I sold the mustang and never looked back. well, not till I had aboot 12,000,000 creds.

I started with the PT and I thought it was great as a starter car. That or just go get gold in some of the licence tests, sell that car, and buy the one you really want.

Hmm i started with some 4WD mini van or something kicked with that for a long time and got a skyline.

Miata is my choice. Getting gold on license tests isn't realistic for beginners. I've raced real cars for 25 years and it took me awhile to get golds. I think you learn more getting a cheap car and racing on different tracks.

I may be swimming upstream here but taking an F1 car an stomping slow cars is only entertaing for a short time. When you start, you need a superior car to make up for lack of experience. But as you get better, you take more satisfaction by winning with a car equal to or lesser than the AI cars.

Yeah, what he said^
I started with the AE86, and a racing chip. It was good stuff. I'm gonna give my save game to my friend and start the game all over again, and what am I gonna buy, the AE86 again, cuz its the shiz nizzle.

Trueno (AE85). My favourite car i nthe whole game.

Turbo, holds the road well, RWD, ugly, cheap as.

I didn't buy, I got all golds in my License tests. I had the Viper Concept. But I used the Maita LS I got from the B.

GTO, I doubt you just bought GT3, opened it up and won the golds. You probably had GT2 before or something like that. And if you are that good, why would you want to blast the amateur cup in a Viper? Doesn't make sense to me.

Nope. About my 2nd round through the game I did though.

Plus, I don't race like that. I race what the field had. its really boring to just dominate. I like staying with the pack.

Trueno (AE85). My favourite car i nthe whole game.

Turbo, holds the road well, RWD, ugly, cheap as.

Since when was

a) the Trueno an AE85 (the ae85 is a levin, the one in the game is a ae86 sprinter trueno)

b) the trueno a turbo car. (its not)

But i do agree that the Trueno is a good starter car.

It is the best car to start with. About as fast as the others stock, but can spend several thousand on go-fast bits. The Mustang Cobra is kick ass for after too.

i won the miata with my trueno. i then sold the trueno to buy drivetrain parts for the miata. with the miata, i proceeded to beat the lowest level n/a races (without the tune-up!) and then the same level turbo races (lvl 1 turbo).
those are just the most memorable victories, i still use it a lot. with 364hp, i can lay a lot of smack down

If you try code junkies codes you can get a infinite money cheat, but you need AR MAX disc and to be a member of that website. Anyway, once you've got infinite money you can start with any car that is available to buy.(Not a car you have to win.) :lol2:

I started with the Miata. Cheap, Light, accepted mods wells, dominated pretty well n the high speed, and you can use it later on in the game with the convertable cup and so on.

first time around i got the Cruiser. It was decent. Next time around i got the miata, it had very good handling. Though i didn't save it that time...then the next time i got the sprinter trueno. ugly as hell but it is a very good car. RWD also. though in my opinion it may be the best bar the miata, it seemed like i had more trouble getting further in the game w/ the trueno then w/ the cruiser. maybe that's b/c i didn't sell any cars when i had the trueno. hmmm...

i started with the PT, best route if you don't wanna spend the time getting golds on your liscenses. PT's can get up to around 330HP (N/A) or about 320HP (turbocharged).

The Trueno can be a turbo car, go buy one, and do the engine mods, you can buy a turbo charge for it, and it's much better than doing the N/A tunes

yeah the trueno would be another good car, lil harder to drive, but once you would get the hang of it, it would be better then the PT. enter more races with it too if you think about it. the trueno with N/A tune ups has about 230hp, and with the turbo it gets about 360hp (nice). here are some bench tests for both the cars
general setup includs spring rate at 12f/10r, stock setting on rest of the suspension, 3.730 final gear, level 27 auto setting
All tests were ran with an automatic transmission and not using the R2 trick. The cars are being used in their top HP form. the trueno was turbocharged, and the PT was N/A
Max Speed:

Trueno: 163.1MPH
PT Cruiser: 163.3MPH

0-400:

Trueno: 13.215 sec
PT Cruiser: 14.262 sec

0-1000

Trueno: 22.932 sec
PT Cruiser: 24.627 sec

well you can see the trueno's faster, but i would still say the PT is a better bet for a starter car. the PT is easier to steer in the beginning, you aren't as likely to lose your rear end as you are in the trueno. i'd do more times (running full tracks a few times, and getting numbers) but im getting pressed for time. hope this helps you with your decision

oversteer is the biggest problem with the Tureno, even with the softest tires it still suffers. but, after practice it becomes a very very good car to race with

after you get through a few races and deciding on a 2nd car for the game, might consider the mustang SVT. its a beast to handle, but man once you get the hang of that sucker you'll be winning races left and right. wait until you get it to over 700hp :D mine's got over a thousand miles on it, and its at 726hp. just to give you some insight on the car. if you really consider the mustang, i recomend getting used to a FR car very strongly. i started with the PT, and got spoiled (not to mention i drive a sentra GXE that's front wheel drive on top of this) and when i transitioned over to the mustang (384HP right off the floor!) i was all over the place. spin out all the friggin time. if you just can't handle that car right off you might consider getting a 4wd car with some power (look at subarus). i used a subaru legacy B4 RSK for a while after i bought the mustang, and at 26,430, it was worth about every dime i paid for it.

i bought a '89 Skyline, and i used it till i had to go buy a new car for the 4wd and FF drive races. (The car was RWD for those wondering)

I got a used early model supra twin turbo, the boxier style, not the sexy curved style. Used that for a while and upgraded when I could. I recently went back to it and fully upgraded it, even though I never race it anymore, jsut to pay homage to the car that started me off.

GT1 - 1993 Toyota Supra Used.
GT2 - 1992 Mazda RX-7 Used.
GT3 - PT Cruiser New (ashamed to admit that)
GT4- 1993 Mazda RX-7 Used.
All were bought to earn me enough money to buy a Nissan Skyline GT-R
