I recently purchased a 2001 Ranger w/ 48,000 miles. The on/off cruise control light located on the left side of the steering wheel is not functioning. How do I change out the bulb(s)? I and a mechanic friend of mine are both concerned that we may either activate the air bag or interfere with it's function. Any help would be appreciated.

Disconnect the negative battery cable to avoid accidently setting off the airbag. Allow it to discharge any residual voltage (about 10-15 minutes).
Remove the two round black caps (one on each side of the steering wheel) and this reveals a bolt. Remove the two bolts and the horn/airbag assy will lift off from the rest of the steering wheel. Careful with the airbag electrical connection
The cruise control on/off switch connector is on the left. You can lift up the rubber switch cover on the left side of the switch assy and pull it out. The small printed circuit board is nestled into the rubber switch cover. The 7 pins on the printed circuit board will pull out of the connector. The lamps have a blue six-sided plastic body that will take a 1/2 turn CCW to remove them from the printed circuit board. I think the lamps themselves are clear and have a green or blue rubber sheath over them. I don't know the p/n or source for the lamps except dealership.
