I have been using Tamiya polishing compound for finishing off my models
before waxing - but can't seem to find it anywhere.

Does anyone know where I can look???

Or can you suggest an alternative??

Thanx.

Not sure about finding more Tamiya compound but Gunze makes a similar compound.

Hey Heather,

If you're using Tamiya spray cans, you could use 3M's Fine Cut Compound, it's what I use and it works great, also lasts a lot longer than Tamiya compound as the bottle is a lot bigger.

Has anyone used that Mr. Gunze stuff , and what's the difference between the fine and super fine?

Also, where to pick up the 3M fine cut?

Thanks

Tom

Best 1 Hobby still has Tamiya Rubbing compund (http://www.best1hobby.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=168&Product_Code=TA87021). I have had flawless transactions with them so I have no problem recommending Best 1 Hobby. Tamiya Compound is OOP so you better buy a couple bottles. Also last I checked "joecwlaw" had some Tamiya Rubbing Compund for sale. I bought a bottle off of him not too long ago.

Tamiya Compound is still available from Japanese online stores like Rainbow 10. So I'm not convinced it has been discontinued, perhaps it is just the importers in some countries that no longer list it.

Other alternatives are Modellers, Gunze (GSI Creos) and Finishers. Of those the only one I've used is Finishers and it is brilliant. It comes in three grades - something like 'hard', 'fine', and 'micro'. The only one that you'll need is 'micro' the others are too harsh.

Hasegawa also have their ceramic compound, to be used with their polymer coat system I think. Anybody ever tried that?

A lot of online stores still have stock but I asked my local hobby shop (which is pretty big) and they can't order anymore because it is not offered. The same went for a hobby I visit in Canada.
