hi everybody! First i want to say hi to all. This is my first thread in here and thank you for everyone whos helping me in here. :)
I wanna hook up 4 neons from 1 switch. i'm not sure if i'm getting 6 inch or whatever. Where should i connect to? The 12V fuse box, battery or [buy extra power source]?
How do i hook up 4 neons and turn em' on from 1 switch?
A picture would be nice :) Thanks

Hey this is a ghetto job but I might just do a bunch of neons and hook them up to a 4 in 1 cigarette adapter... then just switch the cigarette adapter...

heres a better way
find a power source in ur car either battery or fuse block
with the car off run awire from the power source to one side of the switch
now find a good ground connect a wire from ground to every ground wire on the neons
take all the power wires from the neons and make it one wire and put in to the other terminal of the switch
make sure u use proper connectors and electrical tape
any question write back tintedout

i'm trying to do the same thing. only i'm thinkin' about using a cigarette light adapter and a switch. The cigarette adapter has 2 wires comming out of the end. I need to take both of those wires and tape it to the 2 terminals of the switch right? then take the two wires from the neon and connect it to the 2 terminals? is that how u do it? Also how come some switch has 3 terminals?? wut's the other one for?

heres a little diagram i drew... sorry its so bad.....But thats the easiest and safest way to do it, make sure to find a fuse with fairly low amperage... start with 10, then 15, then 20, then 25, then 30
if one blows then go to the next number until you find a fuse that doesn't blow. shouldn't need to go beyond 20 amp (depending on size of neons and power used) you should probably be using a large wire ( about a 12 or 10 guage) you can crimp the wires together, but for the best connection, the wires should be soldered and then covered with heat shrink. good luck, i hoped this helped any questions feel free to contact me.

how do u run a wire from the fuse box? Where does it connect to in the fuse box?

u should have extra spaces on the fuse box to hook right in.

Does anybody know how I can customize my 88 acura legend? I'm trying to figure out what performance parts I can add to it or any ways I could change the interior. I'm trying to take the leather seats of the back and add new ones, and also put racing seats, but I don't think they have mounts for this model. also I'm trying to figure how I can put a better looking bodykit, cause they have very, very, very few for a model that old

the swithc i got has three terminals too- one for power in, one for switched power out and one for ground. i tapped my cigarette lighter power feed so it has a 20a fuse which has so far been able to handle- 3 sets of headlight/taillight strobes, license plate neon, shift boot neon, cigarette lighter, and horn with power to spare. i will take a pic of the switch i installed w/ wiring and explain if you want

do not try running a wire from your fuse box if your a beginner at wiring- it requires ripping apart the dash and is a pain in the ass. if you don't have an existing 12v power feed you can tap into than run a wire straight from your battery to your switch w/ an easily accessible in line bus fuse.

here's how i did it:
start by figuring out where you want your switch. run a ground wire to that switch. the ground wire can pretty much connect to any metal part in the car and it'll work. i just ran mine straight off my battery (negative side of course). connect the ground wire to the part on the switch that says "ground" (duh). then run all the wires from the neons up to the switch. if there's a cigarette adapter, cut it off. the way the neon wires are, there's two wires connected together. split those apart so they're seperate. connect the wire WITH THE STRIPE to the part on the switch that says ACC. do this with all of the neons. then connect the wire WITHOUT THE STRIPE to the "Ground" part. so right now you should have a bunch of wires connected to the "Ground" and ACC parts of the switch and none to the "Power" part. last thing you have to do is run a power wire. cut a piece of wire that's long enough and strip about 1/2" off the end. open your fuse box and find the fuse for your cigarette lighter (should be 20 amp). pull the fuse and then stick the wire over the opening. slide the fuse back in so the wire is between the fuse and the port. then run that wire back to the switch and connect it to the "ACC" part of the switch. turn the key and if all goes well your car will light up.
i'd recommend soldering all connections if you have access to a soldering iron.

you don't have to cut off the feed to your cig lighter to wire it, nor do you have to jam the wire into your fuse box with the fuse. just tap the power wire that goes to your cig. lighter-my ciglighter still functions and you cannot see any of my wiring without takin apart the center console. very neat and safe

if you have a newer car, definitely go with RikStang87's way...new car fuse boxes are impossible to get to. if you have an older car and the fuse box is really easy to get to (i have a 93 and it's just inside the door), i find it easier to just pull the little door off and slide the wire in. either way works...do what you feel more comfortable with

you could also wire it into the headlight switch or whatever or stereo system so they blink with the bass.. Probly a little advanced though I could give you more detailes if you are interested....O and just run power supply from battery but put a fuse somewhere 18 inches from there...then just use this as power line its much easier.

If you click in my gallery there is a little diagram that should help. there should be a hole in the firewall already where you could run the power wire.

I'm new at this, but i read the ideas yesterday and hooked my neons up through the wire for the headlights but in the center console next to the cig lighter, my question is how would u hook the neons up to the stereo? do you need anything for it?

I think there is a kit at Best Buy that has neons for the stereo. like then the bass hits the neon gets brighter. I know there is one for when you rev your engine it gets brighter

I got a setup from wal mart. there was a neon controller for 18$, which they sometimes sell for 9$ It plugs into a cigarette lighter, and then you can plug 2 neons into it, and theres also a wire terminal so you can cut off the neons lighter adapter and hardwire it to the controller. That controller also has a sensitivity knob that lets you control how hard of bass you want the lights to beat to. It works VERY well. I also hooked up a blue rope light around my interior. The rope light and the controller were hooked up to a 3 outlet adapter with a switch and I just used that switch to turn everything on and off. If you want to get advanced you can hook all that up, then try to cut and find different power sources, hide/relocate.. all that jazz, but after you mess with the plug in things for a while you'll begin to understand how to use them better, and you will get better ideas. I recommend that you dont cut all kinds of stuff when you first set it up. You will change it around eventually and you will be glad you took my advice.

The rope light in your interior... how long is it and where did you put it? I've thought about getting it but I don't know if I could make it look good.

it was 8 feet, and it was like, 9 bucks if I remember correctly, and I think I do. I had lined it around my center console and then up under the dash so that it lit up my feet and the passengers feet with a nice blue glow. It comes with clips that you can put into the carpet if you just slice a small slit in it. You can slide the clip in there and that keeps the rope in place. Mine came out so well I helped my friend do his accord with them. We put them around the front floor, lined the kick panels, lined the shifter, and we also put one around his backseat. Just make sure to take the time lay out the rope how you want it, figure out where you will need clips, and use a razor blade to cut the carpet. Its kinda tough because sometimes the clip will slip out and then you cant find the cut, so you have to have patience but if you want it to look good, then you shouldnt be to worried about the time. Ive seen a lot of cheesy set ups but I got a lot of compliments on mine because I wasnt afraid to take the time to make it look good. And my friend got a lot of compliments too. But I should tell you, the rope light wont beat with the bass. Its not meant for that quick of a power surge, it will just not turn on if you hook it to the bass controller.

The EASIEST way to do this is to get like an 12 or 8 guage cable and run if from your battery through the firewall.
Run this cable from the battery to under the centre console.
Send this power cable into the switch and then run the neons off that switch. Make sure that they are all earthed well and you can pop the switch upside down out the side of the console onto the car carpet so you just lean down and flip it.
Still stuck, ask more questions
