More speed needed???

My mate has a 3000zx and he bets me every time but he wont tell me what he did to it and i was just wondering what would be a cheap mod i could do to my 91 gto??? remember I dont have alot of money after getting the car so it has to be cheap thanks.

if he has a z and you have a gto then he's gonna beat you until you put down some good money, or at least a good setup, aren't gto's fwd? they never sold those here

what year do you have? 95 and up will beat any 300zx
anyhow more speed, a k&n intake can give you up to 20hp but more like 15 it costs $60, boost controller is probably what he got, wich you can get if you look right for about $100 mine's cost $300
so for 160 you could destroy him. how bad is he beating you?
and do you have the vr4? cause if not thats why he's beating you and you won't be able to get the boost controller, no turbo's.

you'll have 2 turbo's twin turbo. and you would have a guage in your car that reads boost up to 14psi. it would be the 3rd gauge to the right
otherwise you have a 3000gt sl( thats what its called in the states) and if he is twin turbo, your not gonna beat him unless you put some seriuos money into it.

Actually if ya look up stats a 300zx TT outperforms a VR-4 in just about every catigory. The VR-4 wins in 0-60 and i think thats it.

A filter will give you 5hp max, 15 is way out of the ball park. A manual boost control can be had for as little as $18, pair that with a boost gauge for $50 and your looking at $70-75 for 30ish hp. Not too bad at all.

talskinnyguy, i'm sorry your intake didn't work very well, but intake for a turbo charged vehicle especially twinturbo works a whooole lot better than adding it to your civic or mustang. the turbo's breathe soooo much better you can then start to clearly hear you bov and turbo's get a lot louder and you can feel way more than 5hp, my freinds 300zxtt gained 14hp from intake. that 5hp would be right for a non turbo car but on tt turbo's its diff, and i know how you are so i'm not gonna argue with you.

3000gt vr4 is the turbo version of your gto other wise its considerd a sl
and you see how slow they are. i placed that on here to show you that if you have the turbo version you can out run the 300zx if you have a 95 and up otherwise its a close battle, so if its turbo boostcontroller and intake will do the job.

My GTO has turbo so which is it sl or VR4

its vr4, so you can look at the stats and see that stock for stock you and a 300zx is gonna be a really good race but boost controller and intake should put you ahead.

if youre still not sure whether it turboed or not, just drop the clutch on a wet day and have someone see which wheels spin. front wheels= sl
all wheels=vr4

My mistake on the performance numbers, I was looking at a head to head test of them, the ZX beat the VR4 in everything but 0-60, but I think that was 92. Your numbers arent the only ones put out, road and track had 6.3 and 14.7 for a 91 vr4, car and driver has 13.8 for 94 vr4.

As far as the intake I very well could be wrong, I just dont like when people say somethin gives so much HP, but have no dyno results to show that. And Ive never seen anyone dyno graphs on a stock car before and after intake except for AEM when they made their new cold air intake. Results, new intake 7hp gain, old intake 3hp. But ive never seen anything for turbo cars, you very well could be right.
