Id go with apex'i skunk2 injen, but skunk2's power cat back is prolly the best for your civic.

I just bought an RS*R for my Accord, but they also make them for Civics I believe. Or atleast, I recall seeing a Civic ExMag on Ebay... RS*R makes the ExMag and the ExMag GTII. The ExMag looks more like a stock exhaust, it has a muffler and a chrome tip. The ExMag GTII is more of a can. Depending on how your car is setup either may look good. On my Accord, since I don't have a body kit, having a can looks kind of strange (especially a straight can). But I've seen a lot of Civics with stock body kits that have a slight round cut out which the cans fit perfectly in.
Best is to find someone with the same car as yours, or similar, and with the exhaust you're looking for. I hadn't seen an Accord with a can like mine in real life before I bought it and so I wasn't very satisfied afterwards.

These exhaust systems are all pretty good, A'pexi and Skunk 2 are pretty expensive cat backs, and 5Zigen, along with Tanabe racing medallion are extremely loud. My friend's CRX with Tanabe Racing Medallion is louder than my Prelude..And my Prelude is custom bent piping to the muffler outlet where it just comes out as a 4" exhaust tip. There is no muffler, the only restriction is the Cat. Converter. I think it has alot to do with the-after-4000-rpm-when-the-car-wakes-up sound then actual exhaust flow, because his car is muffled..and its hella-loud..vibration effect.

I put a Magnaflow Cat-back on my civic. Sounds great, and you gain about 10 HP. I can tell the most difference in power in acceleration. Check out magnaflow.com you can listen to the systems.
It's all a pretty inexpensive system to buy.

tell us what you want out of it. wheather or not you want it to be loud that is the main factor. and you will lose bottom end power with a cat back system.

I just looked at magnaflow.com and there cat-back system for the Honda Civic EX 1.7L claimed a +9.2 horsepower gain and a +7.7 torque gain. Not bad at all for 400 bucks.

Yeh, but for $400, you might as go with something like RS-R or GReddy.
