Yeah, I know there's a how to scratch build tutorial in the how to section. But, I negelected to buy some slotted styrene today, so I was wondering If I could use a saw and drag it across .030 sytrene card to make slats, and use that as a cooler. Or would it not work?

Sounds like a great idea, you might have to get a thick saw if you want the grooves to be wider. Good luck.

or he could use the saw to make the initial lines and then use a file to widen them :)

Another idea to give the appearance of the intercooler's surface would be to super glue some mesh like that which comes in some Tamiya rally kits on the styrene's surface. Once you paint over the styrene and mesh together it gives a fairly realistic appearance.

Hello.

Another way to do it is to use strips of heat streached sprue glued to the flat styrene stock. Take a 3 or 4 inch piece of sprue/runner, heat it in the center with a candle/lighter until it melts. Then, pull the cool, unmelted ends apart, pulling the melted plastic into a long, thin strand. Cut this strand into strips about an inch or so long, and glue these to the flat styrene with liquid cement. Make sure you get the spacing parallel and even. This is also a terrific way to make finning on amps- just stretch the runner thin! :sunglasse

Very good tip! In fact I don't use slotted styrene to make my intercoolers... just do something similar to the above, but purchase these small square styrene instead. :D
