PRO COMP or BFG? HELP!

Hey all, anyone got any input on these tires? I'm going back and forth here for about three weeks between ProComp MT's and BFG MT/KM's...I've been pondering this for a while...You really need mudders for the terrain over here in Hawaii, but I want a set with real good highway characteristics..my X is my commutin' machine too.....Any input would be real helpful...

I have heard that the Pro Comp is quieter on the highway. I have a friend who has a set on his Jeep and they are pretty quiet on the highway in my opinion.

I don't have any personal experience with the BFG's.

Also, I believe that the Pro Comps are siped, but the BFG's are not. The BFG's are probably better offroad.

Check out the SuperSwamper Truxus. More Xterra owners are getting these tires and I keep hearing good reviews.

The Pro-Comp MT almost looks like an AT. The chevrons are very close to each other, but maybe that would be good for your on-road driving.

If you get the BFG MT's consider siping the center tread for better road traction.

go for the XTERRAIN I have had them for about a mouth and love them verry quite on the road and great in the mud I got the 33 12/5 thay are aucly thay are 31.5 not 33

Tire Choice is a matter of several things, each of which you need to decide on based on your personal driving habits. First, how loud do you want the tires? The more aggressive the tread pattern, the louder the tire will be. Second, how fast do you want them to wear out? Once again, the more aggressive the tread, the quicker they will wear out. Third is what type of off-roading do you do? If you do a lot of rocks and/or mud, then you definitely want a mud-type tread. But if you drive regularly on the street and in sand, you would be better off with an AT.

As far as the two tires go, I know equal numbers of people running both. Both groups are satisfied with their tires. I have heard that the new BFGs are awesome with the new lug setup. If cost were equal, I would probably swing that way.

Well, really, the terrain over here greatly varies....on most trails I've been on, it's nothin but thick, red mud, but there's an equal amount of places to go where it's nothing but sand. I never plan to do any rock crawlin' in this machine. I don't want to ruin my pretty new sheetmetal! Also, I only really have a commute of 2 miles to work, each way. So tire wear isn't the biggest concern, but I am lookin at this in the long run. I want to get a set that'll do me well in the mud and sand, but it's got to be able to put some serious miles on 'em as well! Any imput?

Sometimes that is the only way! Play tires and wheels and Commuter wheels and tires.

Ok, based on what you gave me above I will try to help.

With the low miles you are talking about driving ("2 miles to work") I'm not sure why you are concerned about having a high mileage tire. I wouldn't be too worried about the tire wear or the sound based on your low miles and if you take that out of the equation you are looking for a tire that performs well in sand and mud.

I'm running the BFG MT's and absolutely love them. I spend most of my wheeling time on sand and rocks and they perform very well as rated. They also have a long history of performing very well in thick mud and with the new diggerz lugz should even be better.

I don't know what the performance ratings are of the TRXUS on sand but have heard it does well in mud and rocks. The procomp also has been around for a while and I'm sure would work for you as well.

What steered me to the BFG over the TRXUS is the fact that they can be found everywhere in a replacement situation I wouldn't have to wait for a week to have a replacement shipped to me. (that and you can't beat the prices, service, and warranty that Costco has).

Availability and replacement does sound like a good reason to go for the BFG's.

BFG also has better variety when it comes to size. They are one of the only manufacturers that offers a 33X10.50X15. Interco may offer something like that, but not in the TRXUS.

I like the Pro Comps too. I have the Pro Comp all terains, but that is only because I put almost 60,000 miles on my truck in two years :eek: They have a 50K tread warranty. I almost went with Interco, and then a flash of reality hit me. I would like to get a second set of mud tires. I would probably choose either the TRXUS or the BFG MT/KM.

Any idea how PRO COMP muds perform on wet or snowy highway ?

the xterrain are good on the wet roads the only thang I have not tride them on is the snow

They aren't aggresive enough for hardcore mudding or rock crawling. There is a sandy creek bottom near where I live and they do well in that. They have good foatation in sand. From what I have read, they are supposed to do really well in snow and ice. They are supposed to be severe weather rated for use with out studs or chains. But, here in Houston I haven't had a chance to try them out in any real winter conditions. They do well in wet conditions. My stock tires were starting to fish tail around corners in the rain. I haven't fish tailed with the Pro Comps.

They are a good all around tire, but there are better choices for off road.
