Civic SI vs. GSR

Whats the big appeal with civic si's? My friend went out and bought a 99si with 63k miles on it for 14g. I bought my 96gsr with 80k for 8g. Why is it that people pay so much more for less of a car. I raced my friend stock, him having cai/h/e and I still beat him. I just don't know why people make civic si's out to be so awesome. The gsr is faster, looks better (in my opinion, everyone and their grandmother drive a civic), and the interior is much nicer. So why would someone go out and spend almost double for a civic si when they could get a gsr?

Maybe, there aren't as many? I do like SI's, but also would much rather own a GSR. They are a lot nicer. Civics are more common around here, so if you have an SI, that alone will put you ahead of most others.

probably because of it having the "si" in it. test drove my friend's civic si hatchback today and it wasn't all that. even once vtec kicked in, i wasn't really impress. the only thing i envy was of the ability to rev up higher on the rpm's. it also was missing tq, but once the si got rolling, it wasn't that bad. besides that there was nothing really special about them, although i do like the "si" blue and it's body isn't bad.

my girlfriend has a '99 si(electron pearl blue) and its alright.....i have a 96 gsr and i love my car......we raced a few times and i beat the shit out of her everytime.....i got my car at a good price(4k) and she paid 15k for hers and she even likes mine more......i dont know, i wouldnt pay that much for a si. i calculated alot of the shit i want to do to my car including lambo doors, paint job, built engine(n/a) and a few other mods and it came out to be almost as much as she paid for her car
got v-tec?

the civ hb si only got 125hp tahts why. but ya it is funny how the si is almost the same price as the gsr. im looking in autotrader and a 99'gsr w/63,000ml is 12,500. and a 00'civ si w/42,000ml is 15,200. damn!
p.s. a98' type-R w/65,000 is 16,000.

we're referring to the new si, it has 160hp whereas the 92-95 civic si has 125hp. the hatchback i wrote down in my prior post was an accident,so if u took my writing the wrong way then my bad.

Yea, I was referring to the newer (2000) si's with 160hp. Another thing I dont understand is that people are buying si's for 14,15g used when they were only like 18.5 new. I just don't understand some people. I mean, you could buy a gsr and trick it out (including turbo) for less than just a base SI. BTW- even if a si was turbo'd, the gsr turbo'd would still own it. These cars aren't bad, I just don't see what the big appeal is. Even if I were able to get either an SI or a GSR for the same price, I would definately get the gsr. So I just cant see why people are paying so much more for an SI.

WTH, i had retype all this cause of an error.
The 98-01s have a 1.6 at 160 HP, while the 02's and newer are 2.0 at 160 HP. I know that emissions are strict, but why wouldn't they improve just a little, the SI is the performance model after all. The Type S's are what, 200hp? The base RSX is 160 hp at the same 6500 rpm as the SI, with 141 lb-ft torque. The SI also has a 2.0 yet its only pushing 132 pounds of torque(i believe). They should have atleast made it like it is now so that the top civic(si) can still beat the lower teg/rsxs. Oh well, just my opinion.

well, my friend works at mobile one autosound and his boss steven and his girlfriend owned the car......i was up there talking to steven one day and he told me about the car.......he told me the price and i asked him why it was so cheap.....he said that his gf works for hooters as a regional marketing director so she has a company car.....the gsr just sat in the parking lot of their apartment, they just wanted what they owed on the car that happened to be right in my price range. the car's interior is perfect and the paint on the exterior is awesome in most parts but flaking (like most honda black paint) on the rest of the car. in 3 months im getting a body kit and right after that getting it painted. o nce i stick the kit and poaint on it ill post some pics
p.s. after that im going to start building my spare gsr block

oh ok ur referring to the new 2002 si's, i thought ur talking about an earlier model, thats why i was like huh? yeah the si is the top of the line civic so they should increase its potential a little more especially when its now a 2.0. but if u think about it, acura is the luxury side of honda so i guess they want acura to stay on top of the pack. looking in the past, although the si's was the top of the line civic, they still wouldn't compare to its bigger integra brothers. the only si that was supposedly faster then the base integra was the 98-01's.
also i think it's about sales, if the si had equal or more power than the rsx, then the rsx wouldn't sell as much. same goes for the rsx-s and rsx type-r when compaed to the s2k, they could have made it have the same potential but then the s2k wouldn't be as special and sales would drop.
they should have just left displacement alone, i believe now it's dissapoints the engineering of honda. either that or leave the displacment as a 2.0 and bump up the hp and tq. hell they should have just used the b18c1 and it would still be better than the new motor, of course this is just my opinion.
another thing, the newest si are ugly and i lost interest in it thats why i never took that car into consideration.

They are kind of ugly. Theyre sort of slowly growin on me though, but they really seem sort "wussy." They only become aggressive looking after they've been dropped with rims, and thats the black SI. I dont know that a white or silver one would be near as agressive as the black.

i never understood why all my friends ran out and bought civics but i also made them question why after i got my teg. homslice, where did you get your gsr from?? im looking for one now and i know that for the most part you just have to keep your eyes open but any tips would be appreciated.

Yea, when I was on the lookout for my teg, I just consistantly looked on autotrader.com for new listings. That coupled with looking in the major newspaper classifieds every few days lead me to my car. I believe that they (a mazda/saab dealer) originally wanted 10k for the car, but talked them down to 8.5k. Just keep looking like I told you, and something will eventually pop up. Be sure to get a carfax report and have a mechanic look at it before you buy, it is very worth the money. I almost bought a 98accord coupe but luckily the mechanic found that the frame was bent which saved me from not buying the car. Good luck looking, but be sure to not jump into buying a lemon.
BTW- never settle for their asking price, 90% of the time they will go down quite a bit in the price.
