Hello all,
Now that I have my 97 M3 and its so awesome, I am turning into hyper protection mode.
got the radar detector (saved my butt today) and got the alarm system.
Now I guess I need some lug nut locks... I dont really want to spend $150 for these things tho!
Also, the current nuts are black and I'd rather get chrome or somethin...
Where can I get this stuff for a good price?
Thanks,
-PCH

I've heard good things about that radar detector, but is there any radar system that is not too pricy and can be wired into the car so I don't have a coiled cord from the dash to the lighter?

i got the direct wire with it and installed it so its out of the way and has good clearance for signals.
cough, saved me 4 times already.. cough.

PCH...how do you install diret wiring so that it is out of the way??
I assume you must run it over the dash and into the lighter...what would hold the wire in place so it does not look like a mess?

first off you have to decide where you want to mount it. i put mine just above and slightly to the right of the rear view mirror.. this keeps it out of your main vision area, and still allows the passenger sun shade to come down to vertical at least. But its an easy eye glance to see whats up and easy to reach to mute. this also gives it great visibilty/range for signals, and keeps it out of the way of everyones vision inside and outside.
started wiring it throught the passenger door / windshield but once we got down to the glovebox, there was really no way in... and it was tight at hell (they know how to make a car fit right :)).
to make a long story short.. i ran the wire about 7 inches to the passenger reading light.. up through the roof and right into the wires there... works great.. off when the car is off, and on when its on.
easy to detach and take with me to another car (like a friends, etc).
i do suggest you get a voltage meter tho.. else you may clip onto the wrong stuff.

Pch...thanks for the routing suggestion for your radar detector...any recommendation on where to purchase the Escort 8500?
Also, you mentioned gettting a voltage meter...I'll pick one up, but what should I be setting it to or looking for on the meter to make sure I'm hooking it up properly?
Thanks...Phil

i got mine directly from them.. couldnt find any cheaper price online and at local stores they were more.
my friend took care of the voltage meter.. but basically u ground 1 end of it.. and then the other line has a sharp point on it which you stick into the wire and it will show the voltage.. his also had a dial that let you check different settings aside from voltage...
did watch em stick his finger and get a bleeder tho hehehe

I have a 2001 325i with the factory alloy wheels and steel wheels which my winter tires are mounted on. I use the factory wheel locks whch replace one of the factory lug bolts on each wheel. I got mine from a BMW dealership which advertisers in The Roundel which is the BMWCCA monthly magazine. They also advertise in a magazine titled Bimmer which is available at may newsstands and Barnes&Noble bookstores. If you join the BMWCCA you can get a discount on parts at many of the dealerships that advertise in the Roundel.
