Insight to CRX?

verboom

I think everybody has thought it once or twice since the Insight came out, when is somebody going to make it a CRX? There's been photoshopped pics, and people have been talking, but nothing more than idle "yeah, it'd be cool" chit-chat. Does anybody know of anybody doing it? And I really don't know how hard it would be to swap a civic engine in or something, but I think with a body kit and loss of fender skirts, it could be a really nice looking CRX. What does everybody else think?

If I was gonna mod an Insight, I'd keep the outside stock. I remember something about the Insight having the lowest coefficient of drag of any car out right now. Other than that moddin' out an Insight would be sweet.

Yeah, it would be nice to have the low coefficient of drag, but I think I'd pay the few extra cents in gas to get rid of the goofy side fender skirts. And to get some nice wheels.

You guys think the insight looks like a 5th generation crx too!?! It resembles it greatly. I want to see one with the wheelcover thing off and with a b16a and some nice rims.

What i personally think is that they wanted to bring the CRX back but with a different name(Insight). I also think they wanted the del sol back but named it the S2000. Both of the cars look like they could be a newer version of each other. I mean, the Insight looks like a newer CRX and the S2000 looks like a newer Del Sol.....Just a thought though. :D

yeah i think he's right, these would be the respective cars if the names remained the same. it be mad funny to see a mustang or something get beat by an insight:D

For the hassle of making the Insight look nicer, I'd prefer to get a CRX. If I had the money to afford an electric car, and run it than it would be an option, but not in that disgusting green snot colour

Just one question......WHY???????????:apuke:

CRX and insight look the same but actually the del sol and S2000 are all descendents of the CRX.

gunnmen01

there was no 4th gen crx...only first(84-87) and second(88-91) the rex is called a 4th gen cuz its the same years as a 4thgen civic...

I've thought about the same thing for a while now. I was thinking it'd be great to have that style car with an H22 or something in it instead of the gas saving electric stuff. It'd be a hell of a lot of modifications. You'd probably need new gas tank, new dash, cut up the engine bay, and tons of other stuff. If I ever won the lottery I'd do a swap.

H22 weigh to much, try a b series or even a built d series....but youd have to keep it light or it handle like shit....

haha, i was thinking about this long and hard, and i didint know if anyone out there had the same idea, cuz ive NEVER seen it done, i was actually coming here to start a thread about it....i totally agree. competely resembles crx, i thin if those rear wheel covers were taken off, some nice wheels were added, it was lowered, and swapped with the same gen civic i-vtec engine (a RSX Type -S engine , even better), this car would be sweet! sumone, PLEASE DO IT, also post any of those photoshopped pix! i wanna see a preview

i would just like to make a little comment to gunmen not to be rude or start an argument but the comment on "del slow" do you not find it kinda odd that you would call it slow but yet you have an engine that comes in del sol's?

gunnmen01
07-24-2003, 09:09 PM
that motor is also in the 92-95 si hatch and the ex...neither of which have the extra 200 lb of reinforcement for the removable roof... so its not the motor but the excess weight of the car that makes it slow.... however the si did have the b16 in it...but those are hard to find...

um, okay, i dont remember the site...ill try to find it...but honda built the insight as a replacement for the crx HF series and plans to reintroduce the crx in a few years. eventually a 1.0L VTEC will be offered with 99 HP in a new body style (rsx looking headlights on a 91 crx shape with insight's curves instead of ridges on old crx's) they will also offer a 1.6L DOHC VTEC (new gen. B16A perhaps) with 160 HP (think 99 civic Si moddability) in a car that weighs only 1900-2100 lbs! thats almost 700lbs lighter than my RSX Type S! as soon as i can get to my pc (im at a college pc now) i have a link saved with an article and a concept sketch. this article is not web speculation either, but pulled from a respected car mag. (cant rem which!)
anyway, ill post the link

Long live the CRX!

Rumors of a new crx have been floating around for years, and no the insight is not a hf crx replacement...honda built to prove they could build a marketable gas/electric vehicle.... but if you find the link I would like to read it sometime....

the s2000 does look like an advanced del sol, but the it's from the s series cars. s600, s800, etc.

I am looking to replace the 61ci 993cc 55hp engine in my firefly for a four cylinder anyone know any good engines that will fit and can be modified to lots of hp so I'll be the fastest 1990 2door hatchback Pontiac Firefly in town.

NO NO NO NO NO....i am tired of correcting this. The SI had a 1.6 SOHC VTEC engine. It was the VTEC model with the B16A3 in it.

gunnmen01
03-18-2005, 08:10 PM
okay i guess you dint read the whole... and dont think your correcting me... the 92-92 si hatch and ex civics had the d16 sohc vtec.. like the del sol SI.. the del sol si vtec had the b16 excatly like i said...

gunnmen01

Privatebigandrew
03-19-2005, 09:46 AM
No you said "however, the si di have the B16 in it" Which is wrong, so i am correcting you. There is no such thing as a del sol si vtec either. the only models ever made were the s, the si, or the vtec. The only honda made si car with a b16 in it is the 99-00 civic si.

gunnmen01
05-05-2005, 09:42 PM
del sols are like the prelude, they came in 3 models; s, si and si vtec... so i guess i dint include si VTEC like honda calls them... my bad

there is a prelude S, prelude SI, and prelude VTEC.

prelude vtecs are called Si vtecs by honda, just like the del sols

they are badged as S, SI, VTEC though. at least every opne Ive seen.

Ok my bad i dint explain myself, they are badged s,si and vtec, but honda refers to them as si vtec in the service manuals, ETM's and parts catalogs.... sorry about that 94tegrs....
