Stock '90 Civic Motor vs. '97 Cobra w/NOS

I know what you're thinking.... poor civic....Just to let you know, this isn't my car we're talking about, it's a guy's I know, so you won't think I'm exaggerating. Anyway he got a 90 Civic with no mods against a 97 SVT Cobra with 100 shot of NOS. They warm their tires up, Cobra smoking rear tires... Civic just shooting forward no smoke....They take off and bam Civic beats him in quarter mile by about 1 1/2 car lengths.. how you may ask? Considering his civic has no hood, cut off roof, no trunk lid, no rear bumper, 1 removable seat....and is light enough for 1 person to pick up rear 3 feet off of the ground, lol. This proves that if you can't afford to beat them with power in a 4 cylinder, just gut your car and cut off the roof with a saw. Lol

Post some pics, otherwise prepare for some flames, and me locking this thread...
For that Civic to be even anywhere NEAR the '97 Cobra's power-to-weight, it needs to be around 1,100lbs in weight.
1997 Mustang Cobra:
Curb weight - 3315 lbs
HP - 305
3315/305
10.87 lbs-per-hp
Let's say your buddy's Civic is actually an Si, with 106HP, as opposed to 88HP from anything else from 1990:
1100 lbs
1100/106
10.38 lbs-per-hp
Even then, it's not that much difference for the car to be pulling 1.5 cars through a quarter-mile.
Personally, I vote that you are a troll trying to start shit, but if I am wrong, and you post pics of how you guys accomplished a 900+lbs of weight-reduction on a Civic hatch and still have it running, then I'll apologize. Till then, you're on watch under "troll" status.
EDIT:
Oops, forgot to mention that those numbers above are for a STOCK Cobra. with a 100-shot...well, the Civic must look like a go-karthttp://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/images/smilies/uhoh.gif

Maybe if the car had been stripped down to the bare floorpan with rope tied to the ball joints instead of a steering wheel in order to save weight. YeeHaa, just like them old chuck wagons.
Anyway, here's a link to a couple of 2003 Cobras on the quartermile,

if you don't believe me then that's your issue, but the car flies... and yes I picked the rear up alone, but I weight 225 and play football but it is really light... again I repeat that he cut off the roof all the way to the trunk, took out the trunk and rear bumper, hood, seats, consoles, and replaced interior with tubing..also the cobra spins and they raced in an 1/8 of a mile, typo

'quarter mile' was a typo to '1/8'?

zilch, zero none... im surprised it would hold together. on a honda civic, unless this car had a tube subframe, it would fold like paper.

Anybody remember the SCC mag where they tore the Sentra SE-R apart down to basically a floor pan and engine? With the stock engine it went from 16's to low 14's, and it has more power than a civic. 106hp with all that weight gone would probably get it into the 15's, so beating a 13-second car is impossible unless the driver of the Stang is the absolute worst driver on this planet.

:eek7: Take that dinky little four-banger engine, strap wheels on it and run it down the track remote controlled for all I care - no weight reduction would equate to the kind of power need to pull off an ET capable of dusting a sprayed 32-valve Ford.
Don't feel too bad though guys, we've got stupid newbies in our forums as well. :loser:

Now, now...there are 80-100 horsepower motorcycles and go-karts with less TQ than the motor we're speaking about that'll easily dust said sprayed Ford...;). Of course they'll have to weigh about 300lbs or less, but I digress.
Not trying to lessen this guy's rep as a maroon or anything...:)

 I know I know - and you're right about the bikes (but a go-cart in the quarter mile? Seriously??)
You get the idea though, you might as well be riding that civic motor down the strip cause there won't be much else left!
This thing would look stupid too.

Hey man, a buddy of mine beat a new ENZO the other day in a pedal car with a big rubber band wrapped around the axle that he twists real hard and then lets go. He's also got a 50hp shot of nitrous but it's just to keep the rubber band cool from all that twisting......Next upgrade is a rubber band front and rear...awd man.....awd

I've seen some insane go-karts with not only a high-CC motorcycle motor (600cc+), but also has it's gearing.
With the kart's small-diameter, but wide wheels, I'm sure they can't top-out like a bike...but I am sure they can accelerate like nobody's business. :)

my dad and I have a few racing go-karts, and TRUST ME they accelerate like hell, and actually top out fairly well. Ours aren't shifter-karts (6-speed sequential gearboxes :naughty: ) they just have methanol burning Briggs and Stratton engines on them, but with the capability to do 120 mph at ~1" above the ground, it's plenty :smokin:
