Beefed up Cadillac

Well, this is my first message on this board, so I'll introduce myself as well as start a thread. I drive a 97 Cadillac Eldorado basemodel, with the 275 horsepower Northstar. Well, formerly 275 horsepower. I recently had a set of high perforance Ravin mufflers put on that give a deep, muscle car sound, and noticeable power gains. I do street race when given the chance, and I also plan on going out to the race track to see what my Eldorado runs on the 1/4 mile. But I do also enjoy the Cadillac ride, so it's not a total waste. I'm curious if anyone else out there is doing similar things, especially with a Northstar engine, and what power boosts they're recieving. My goal is about 380-450 horsepower in a car that looks stock. :grey: Wake up some of those riced out civics, and beefed up Mustang's when they get left behind by a Cadillac. Though admittedly, right now a lot of cars get left behind by my big Eldorado. Right now I'm looking at improoving the handling, and braking of the Eldorado, preferably through a springs and strut kit, alongside bigger tires, and more powerful brakes. Anyone else done the same already and have some recommendations?

Well Welcome to this board, even though im more of a newbie here, lol. I don't have any advice, but my dad has a 93 Deville. For some reason, even I love Muscle Cars, I love driving it when I get the chance. It is fun when people come up next to you and when they try to pass you, they see a freakin Cadi woop them. I havn't modded it, and would also like to know what good mods would be for a Cadi.

You said you wanted to beef up your 90 Deville, question is, how much, and is there a certain effect you want? If I recall right, the 90 Deville carried the 4.5L V8. Now, for aroun $200, you can toss in a superchip for an increase of 18 horse, and 31 torque peaks, alongside the top speed limiter reduced, and firmer shifting on the car. The chips are well worth it, especially since they also increase fuel mileage when driving it like a caddy. :D Now, if you want the additional power, without the loss of caddy sound quality, I'd recommend doing just a K&N filter, or cone air setup. After that, to keep things quiet, would involve a lot of tricky work involving fuel injection amounts, timing, etc. Could be done without too much difficulty, but the gains wouldn't be magnificent until you hit them just right. The other possibility, is look for a custom supercharger setup on the motor, prolly run you about 3k, but you could almost garuntee 90 more horsepower, even more if done properly. At that point, the transmission becomes a problem as it's noto designed to take the added power, and you'd have to either try and transplant the newer 4t80-e (I think that's the tranny code) being used in the current fwd caddies. It's one of the most rugged trannies available for fwd vehicles. Hmm... I think the 90 Deville was FWD... Damn, not sure. If it is, that'd be the plan. If it's rwd, then there's plenty of higher power tolerating trannies available, probably based from the vette chassis. At that point though it,'s into a custom tune on the comp brain, because you'll have more gears. One of the best things I can recommend though, is watch how the more popular tuner cars do their mods, and find a car that is similar in motor type. Mimic the tricks that Mustang and Camaro owners pull, (Since the 4.5 in 1990 was pushrod I think) and you'll be able to find gains without loss of Caddy sound. I personally have to watch a lot of the rice burners at work, because thier DOHC 4 bangers have a lot in common with my DOHC V8. Though I watch the smaller tricks, as opposed to the nitrous and forced intake. True originality is extremely difficult to do, finding something that works, and adapting it to your needs is a lot more efficient, and much less dangerous. Just find a motor similar with a high aftermarket, and watch it at work. Decide what mods are right for your style and tastes.

Go to http://www.superchips.com/ explore the site, and at the bottom is a phone # for ordering. You can order direct from them, ad there will be instructions on how to install the chip yourself. Or you can find out about local dealers for you that will install it for you. I'll give you a hint man, do it yourself is a cinch. The first time I did it, took me 20 mins, because I was being very careful, and had difficulty finding things. Then I took extra steps as well. After that, I pretty much left my one kick panel off, (didn't need it, and you didn't see anything anyways) and I could have that chip installed in my Town Car in 30 seconds or less. I don't know if they'll ship direct to you, but they will put you in contact with a local dealer if need be. I have a buddy who owns a body shop, and is a liscensed dealer for them, he called them up, said I'd be coming by with a check to pick up a chip for my Town Car. I drove over there (I'mm 20 miles from their main center) with a buddy and installed the chip in their parking lot. I noticed the difference by the time I'd gotten to the end of the street. I noticed how big that difference was by the time I'd gotten a mile away. On the drive home, I met the new top speed limiter at 112. Called up superchips, brought the chip back, got it again 3 days later, and met the absolute top end, all the car had to give of 120. Installation's easy, especialy once you figure it out the first time. Like I said, I'd had no experience at it, and my buddy and I did it, and some extra steps in 20 minutes. For a noticeable difference, I think it was worth it. :sun:
