Irregular Clicking Noise (like Fast Indicators)

Hi, ive a 306 diesel 1998, and it has a noise that comes on every so often, it sounds like the indicators are workin overtime . irregular/fast/slow clicking. but no indicator arrow light flashes.
while the indicators are flicked on it stops (i feel silly driving with my indicators on everywhere) its as loud as the indicator noise and is coming from same place.
anyone experienced this? cheers

try unplugging indicator unit and or if seperate the hazard lamp .it could well be a faulty unit.

i dont have a manual, -whats the easiest way of locating the indicator unit? (im not a complete novice with cars, know basics)

simplest way is to operate indicators and search area noise is comming from/ditto with hazards,(if fitted)

sounds more like a stalk problem. sometimes when i indicate i get a click and no lights, i have to cancel and reindicate. when the indicators dont light up the click goes very fast. Switch cleaner may help :)
