Please help, i don't know what else to do! This is the problem:

When i start up my car (Nissan 200SX 2.0T 95 up, aka S14), everything goes ok, it sounds ok, when i push the gas it sounds fine and everything looks ok, but when i push the clutch and engage any gear at all, even reverse and i push the gas, with the cluch up or down the car starts to make a strange noise, very loud like if something was beating on metal very fast! I opened the gearbox and everithing is ok, and the most strange thing is that the noise looks like it comes from the cams!!!

Anyone have an idea of what it's appening???

Thanks in advance for any help!

Do worry, this is the computer telling the variable valve timming solinoid to readjust. The problem is very commen on the s14 & less so on the s15. It will not damage your engine, but you will lose the advantage of higher power above 5grand & a bit of low end grunt(but not much). The reason it only happens when you let the clutch out, is the computer telling the solinoid to get it act together which it does not at first ,but does over a couple minutes of driving.

See a nissan mechanic (make sure they know about this issue, or go else where)for a fix + do NOT use thick oil.

I have a problem with my 95 nissan 240 (s14). It is a noise inside what sounds like the valve cover. I have had it looked at by a couple of mechanics. Some have said it could be lifters, Cam bearings, or chain tensioner. I really need help. I don't have alot of cash so I don't have enough to have a mechanic tear into the engine. If someone knows about or has had experience with such problem please shoot me back a message. Thanks.

Yes my problem is really the VTC, i read an article about grounding the solenoid and the noise would disapear, i'll try that, maybe it works...

Ok, the problem is solved!!! The grounding mod worked! This is the link: http://www.geocities.com/bracecraig/maxima/vtc/vtc2.html

Thank you all!

Hey Nav,

The link you have specified does not work. Any chance of a hand here?

Thanks.

NAV the link works, just not this idiot here at this keyboard, so thanks Man, you'v done well.

For the problem with the 2.4 I am not sure I can help. But if the 240's have a OHC 12 valve, this is common. But if your car has the 2.4 DOCH 16 valver, I am not sure as most if not all these DOCH engines do not have VVT. You could make sure you use thin sythentic oli in the DOCH & change often for about 20,000km which removed a noise from a friends SRDET. The SRDET in question was lound in the extreme, but was never oil changed often and had a lot of sludge.

Best of luck.
