Getting a new car! :)

...At least I might be. Selling my slow-ass Saturn SC2 and buying the same car I used to have. A '91 Talon TSi AWD. I'm in love with them. Thing is, this one already has pretty-much the entire Stage 1 checklist done. 3" cat-back, cat, downpipe, intake, boost controller/gauge, a/f gauge, FMIC, Centerforce Dual Friction Clutch, 16G Turbo, AFC, Turbo Timer, Walbro 255lph fuel pump, KYB shocks with 1" drop...and best of all, a JDM engine with only 55,000 kms on it.

I'm getting it checked out by my mechanic tomorrow, and assuming all goes well I'll by driving it by mid-week. I took it for a test-drive today and...wow, it flew. So much faster than my old Talon, and I hate driving my Saturn right now. It's just soooooo slow.

Future mods will hopefully soon involve an Evo III Exhaust manifold, ported or replaced o2 sensor housing, and cranking the boost up to ~15PSI. Hello 300+HP

That's the way to go, buy a car that's already been worked on by the previous owner. They've lost money on it... now it's your thirfty gain.

Of course, you could be inheriting somebody elses headache... but that's the risk you take with used cars.

Well you can say hello 12's and 11's with the right tuneage. Great car, whats the sticker price? Ive got to get me a 1g everyday driver instead of my 97 spyder. It runs great but im up to 115,000 miles and when i rebuild the motor I dont want to drive it everyday. Great buy, id say GO FOR IT....

The guy is asking $5,200 CDN. I'm in Toronto btw. I got him down to $5,000. I would have gone lower but it seems he had another guy interested who would pay $4,800 to $5,000. I'm really hoping this turns out well. The last thing I need is another lemon like my old talon.

Unfortunately, I'm going to have to take a cash withdrawl on my VISA to buy this car, then sell the saturn for (hopefully) ~$15,000 and pay off the debt. It's the only way I can do it right now.

By next year, when the tracks open up again, I want to have the suspension done as well. Then I can go to road racing events after I take Skip Barber in NY. I'm hoping to get into the Ameteur leagues and start from there as a hobby/possible future career (if I'm VERY VERY lucky/skilled.) But that's not what I'm going to focus on for a future.

Anyways, I can't wait to start lining it up and smoking all the stupid ricers in my area who think they're fast.

Example: This one guy named Pus with a 1.6EL Acura...says he runs 11s on a stock clutch with just a Jackson Racing S/C, pulleys, intake/exhaust, and a fuel pump. I'm thinking, no fucking way. I wanna burn him hard.

It's gonna be a fun summer when it rolls around.

11's... hmmm.... maybe 12's but 11's i don't know. don't the acuras do like a flat 15.0 stock. supercharger and couple mods should bring it to mid 12's

The Acura 1.6 EL is just re-badged Honda Civic EX with a different front-fascia. I'd be surprised if that car can break past 14.0 with those mods Papa says he claims.

AWD will be great out of the dig, but from a roll or on the Hwy it sucks. Oh well. I'll still love it.

well, it seems I won't be getting the Talon. I brought it by my mechanic's place today. He took it for a drive, came back about 10 mins later and says not to buy it. The tranny's all screwed, and he can smell it burning oil. So scratch that idea. But my mechanic is selling his 5 Litre 'stang, so i might buy that. He's had it for a while and I know it's been well-maintained and is in good-condition. It's an 89. He's willing to throw on BBK headers and a straight-pipe exhaust for me with no labour, and his cost for parts. I know he's not trying to rip me off because he also happens to be my best friend's brother, and I've known the guy for years. I guess I'll have to look into that.

Oh well, looks like I won't be hearing the "pshhh" from the BOV anymore.

har har HARR!!! A potential Mustang driver.... hahahhaa.... The revolution is taking form... AF will be conquered..... ahfa;lkhdfa;kldjfa83ua9w8!!!

Anyways, the 5.0 sounds like a good deal! They're pretty fun to drive and get decent gas mileage. The aftermarket is huge blah blah blah. And you can definitely still have the pssshhhhhhhhh. Flip them BBK shorty headers upside down and do a junkyard twin turbo set up. Force that mechanic friend to help.. WHOO!! turbo 5.0!

I think 11's is HIGHLY optimistic for a 16g turboed 1st gen Eclipse. He'll be lucky if he is kicking out 370 awhp. I'd say mid to low 12's w/ a really good 60'. In any event, good luck w/ the new car. The 1st gen. is the one to get. I heard they have less incidents of crank walk.

Right now I'm thinking just let him do the headers and H-pipe 2-cat exhaust. Then in a little bit I'll do 3.73 gears and the intake/manifold. After that, it's time for spray. From what I've read, I think 100HP shot would be appropriate...and I think it wouldn't require any additional fuel system upgrades. Correct me if I'm wrong however, because I'm certainly not sure. I'd just like to learn as much as possible. Any input or advice would be greatly appreciated regarding modifications to these cars.
Thanks,

PapaShlapa

Isn't a 100 shot kinda big for that motor? I've heard of people spraying N20 into their intercooler, but I dunno.

Well it's been finalized. I shook his hand and told him I'm buying it. Tomorrow my Saturn goes on Autotrader and I give him a $500 desposit. He's ordered the BBK headers and the exhaust, as well as the 3.73 gears, which he says would be most appropriate for the applications I'm using it for. I might be throwing in Nitrous next year so if I go with 4.10s I'd just have to replace them with 3.73s when/if I get it. Now I have 2 choices:

1) Buy snow tires and be really careful when the snow comes.

2) Buy a piece of shit winter beater with faked cert & e-test for a couple hundred bucks and drive that through the winter.

I'm sort of leaning towards snow tires, but I'm not sure. Any opinions?

Thanks,

PapaShlapa

P.S. - any idea what I'd run on the 1/4 with this car with 2-cat dual exhaust, headers and 3.73 gears? I'd say I'm a pretty good driver, or at least better than everyone I know that's within a couple years of me.
