98 Chevy Tahoe Tranny problems

Today my tanny started acting up...it lost 2 gear, OD and Reverse. I was driving and it down shifted into 1st gear, then back to 3rd, never going to 2nd. Once I stopped, it wouldn't go into reverse. The OBD-II reader tells me the code is P0751, saying the the shifter silenoid A CKT performance or stuck off. I have looked in my Chilton book, but it says nothing about that code or about the transmission having a shift silenoid. Please help ASAP! Thanks!!!

I had this same problem on a 99 4WD Tahoe at around 50k miles. The cause turned out to be a mechanical failure of the sun shell gear in the transmission - which seems to be fairly common.

Yeah, I have been hearing that from a few people now, I was just hoping that I could get it fixed without tearing it out and open it up. But that's the way it goes! Thanks for the help!

Mine had to be rebuilt at around 55.0 miles. Stopped at a stop sign and when I started up again, I only had one gear. Over $2.0 to repair

My Tahoe did the same thing at 33k. Sun shell gear busted. Repair bill 1700 plus. With so many people having the same problem why is GM not fessing up to having build a substandard part in the transmission and get us some refunds.

I fixed my Tranny myself, and it only cost me $400. But it took me 6 hours to drop the tranny, and another 8 to put it back in all together. But taking the tranny apart was really easy, and the Sun SHell was quick to get to and is an easy fix. I bought the UPGRADED Sun Shell, and so far it has ran pretty good. I also installed a shift kit, and did something wrong, so now I have no second gear, but I know what I did wrong, so it is another easy fix.

Glad you could fix the tranny yourself. I send a complaint letter to GM and they gave me a $1500.00 certificate to be used for any new GM product i wish to purchase. That was nice of them; however; I traded the Tahoe in for a Mercedes station wagon.
