I applied a few coats of paint over the last few days, and I will clearcoat it after a couple more coats of silver, but I just couldn’t resist throwing it together to get a taste of the finished product! This is unpolished, straight from the can Tamiya TS-30 Silver Leaf, I didn’t even wipe it down for the pics. I’m pleased with the shine, but the clear will make it even better! Let me know what you think, guys! I have more than half of the replies that are in this thread! Here ya go:

niiiiice. personally, I've never worked with tamiya silvers, but that looks like a chrome without an enamel underbase, and they don't look too good with clear. but that looks hot. very sweet.

BTW, what's the silverado in the background, when are we gona see a thread on that?

sorry to go off topic dude.

I'm building a Revell S600 (really an S500) too and noticed that the exhaust tips hang too low. You might want to snip those a little shorter because they're not that obvious on the real car (unless they are the chrome-tipped exposed ones like on the S600).

Great work so far! I've enjoyed this thread .

Thanks for the comments, guys. The silverado is actually almost done, the chassis and interior have been complete for several months already, and I just sprayed the bedliner, so it's almost ready for paint. I hadn't planned a progress thread, but I might post pics of it when it's done.

As for the exhaust pipes on the S600, it's one of the first things I noticed wen I was taking these pics. I will definitely have to cut them, because they look really wimpy.

Great step by step progress Phil. This will turn out to be a great car when completed.

Here's a little something just to show you that not everything is cookies and roses (is that how the expression goes?) in these Progress Threads. The builder can always choose to omit any screw-ups by either not telling us about them or by creatively photographing the model so that it doesn't show. Well, I'm bringing it to you straight up! No secrets here!
The hood, roof and trunk are regular sanding between coats to remove imperfections, but the front fender is a screw-up that can only be blamed on my impatience. I slipped the front bumper on to get a feel for the look, but the paint was apparently too soft, and it suffered some damage. I had to sand it down, and now it's ready for more paint. It's still way too cold (even inside the garage) to do any painting, so it might be a few days before the next coat goes on.

I just bought that same kit as you inspired me so much with those first pictures. This plus reading here recently of Revells latest kits being "not far behind Tamiya" i really thought it was worth a try. Sooooooooo wrong !!! the quality is so poor, terrible and light years behind Tamiya. Apart from this the roof was cracked and "sunken" in the middle. Well ive always been a Tamiya fanatic and by this experience i KNOW i always will be.
One question here for whoever........which is the best quality, Aoshima or Revell....................

Later, Mike.

Don't mean to sound like a prick, but this is my progress thread. If you want to ask a question about who makes the best kits, do it somewhere else.
I, for one, never siad this kit was Tamiya-quality, or even close to it. I'm glad, though, that I inspired you enough to go and buy one! :evillol:

In other more important news, I got another coat of paint on yesterday, and I'm gonna look at it soon to see if I'm good to go on the clear after the details go on.

Well....didn't mean to make you so  . Just letting you know that you inspired me enough to go out and buy that kit. As for revell though and your model, well thats one hell of a great job you acheived from a "pile of shit".........keep up the good work.

Time to bring this thread pack from the almost dead. I haven't gotten much bench time in, but I got the B- pillars and rear window vertical bars painted black, which is how they are on the 1:1 car. This will also keep the flow of the tinted windows from front to rear. I also detailed the panel lines with a 0.2 mm black pen. This is the first time I've done this, and I never thought I would do it, but it looks good. Now I just have to see how permanent the ink is when I wash the body to get it ready for clearcoats. :P

I am presently gluing the headlight lenses into the grille/headlight bucket part, but I still haven't figured out how I will go about tinting the taillights. Should I just spray the outsides with Tamiya Smoke and install them? Hmmm, I don't have the spray, but I have some in a bottle... Gonna give it a shot! I'll get back with the results!

Here are a couple of pics to keep you interested.

http://images1.fotki.com/v12/photos/3/35531/496069/P1200108-vi.jpg

These are the taillight lenses, which have 2 coats of brushed-on Tamiya Smoke on the outside. They presently have a coat of clear red on the inside, and I will probably put another coat or two of smoke on the outsides.

Yes, the passenger and rear tints were redone. The passenger one is OK now, but the rear one still isn't perfect. I'm not going to bother rediong it again.

I got another coat of clear down, and then I realized I still had a couple decals to add. So i put them on, and managed to screw one up, but Tonioseven may be able to help me out. I also added the BMF trim to the bottow of the windows. Now it's ready for another coat of clear (or two).

I had to scratchbuild a pair of mirror faces for the outside mirrors because there aren't any in the kit (?). Easy do, some thin plastic shaped to fit, with BMF over top.

Here are some more pics, the car is coming along very nicely and should be finished within a couple of days. All that's left to do is mate the body to the chassis, and polish it up.

The taillights didn't come out as I had imagined at first, but the result is pretty neat anyways. It's got a dark look, with the red still being evident.

Normally I wouldn’t do a progress thread, but this project should be a relatively quick one

I'd hate to see a long project from you LOL only j/k this has been nice to follow and resulted in a nice clean model from what I concider to be an average kit, good job.

WOW! You're doing great work here. This is a model I would love to have/build.

I tint my windows with 1:1 tint too. I must say, you were spot on with your instructions. It deserves a home in the 'How to' section of the forum. Very well written.
Great work. I look forward to more of this awesome Benzo. I'll go check that completed page now. :)
