Headlight Replacement

Can someone please tell me how to replace the headlight bulbs in my 2001 Maxima. I have never delt with 9003's before and am having trouble taking the stock bulb out. Do I have to take off the rubber surround or can I just pull the bulb out? I figured I would ask someone before I break something trying. If someone can tell me how before I get my Haynes manual that would be great!!! Thanks for any help I can get. -J
