Has anyone here put on a supercharger on a 5 Liter. If so paxton or vortec and while we are on the subject which is best? I've just about every bolt on I could get my hands on.
Heres the list 3.73 gears, pulleys, cobra intake, 30lb injectors, fuel pressure regulator, chip, msd ignition,65mm throttle body, cold air intake with k+N,and T rex 190lgh fuel pump and ported E7TE heads, headers and offroad H pipe.
I figure i am running about 285 to 300 hp. This is ok, but to compete with LT1's and especially LS1's I need a lot more power. If any one has any experience or knows anything about superchargers let me know.

In general I think vortech superchargers are better, I see much better numbers coming out of them, but it also depends what model you get, not just the brand.

I'd say before a supercharger, ditch the E7 heads and Cobra intake. Grab a set of AFR heads and either a Trick Flow or Edelbrock intake, then slap a decent cam in there. You should have about 325-350 bhp then, and should make for a noticeable improvement. Then after you get use to that, go BLOWN.

I am in agreement the Cobra intake is going to scream for mercy with a S/C and those E7 head will kill you. Get a set of TFS or AFR whatever you like better and TFS track heat or Edelbrock performer rpm intake. Also it is def time for a cam swap.

So at this point he should swap his cam?

Well, with his current combo it's not completely necessary. If he were to do the mentioned head and intake swap, then yes, that would the perfect time to do a cam swap.

Ok fellas what do you think about this. This motor is in pretty good shape, no smoking or leaking but it does have 109,000 miles on it. Is it really worth putting this kind of money in a motor with this kind of miles on it? Summit has a 345hp crate motor with aluminum GT40 heads and x303 cam what do you think? :banghead:

Its worth it, besides, i think the milage is not so high.

I'm not a fan of the GT40 heads, kinda of out dated with the current products that are available. So I'd say that summit kit isn't really worth the money.
Those 109k miles, are they babied or hard driven miles? Start with a compression check, wet and dry. If the #'s aren't too far off then, I'd tear down the top end and rebuild it from there. New alum heads, cam, valve train, timing chain, intake, etc.

Well I didnt buy this car new in fact it has about 95k when I bought it. And although I change the oil religiously, I do have a tendancy to GET ON IT. I can't help it.
Ok lets talk cams. I forgot to add that this car has 1.7 roller rockers on it. Can I keep these or should they be swapped? What kind of cam do you recommend? Keep in mind emissions.

If you're looking for a cam I think anderson has some smog legal blower cams, and if you talk to cammotion they will custom grind you one based around your combo, power goals, and any emissions requirements. But whatever you do, stay away from the FMS alphabet cams. Old outdated grinds that don't make much power.

Yeah, if you are still planning on running a blower, then go with a custom grind for sure. Also if your going to get a new cam, I would ditch the 1.7 rockers and slap on some 1.6 roller rockers.
