Spoiler Brake Light Problem

I just purchased a 1997 I30t with 45K miles and everything is working except the spoiler brake light. Upon checking with the dealer, etc. they said the light could not be replaced except by purchasing a new spoiler. I have taken off the light and I think the LED could be replaced after separating the red lens from the housing. It appears to be a 50 light 12v unit and was looking at my catalogs and I am finding those strips for around 20 bucks or so. Has anyone had the same problem and can I replace the LED strip and it would work? It seems very simple, just a light that is lit when the brakes are applied. Thanks.

Someone has to have had their spoiler brake light go out and found out a way to repair it. Come on, please!

I had a similar problem on my 96 I30. I have replaced one LED and the transient supperssor which was blown (looks like a big resistor) and it worked great. Actually still works til this day :)
Not much there... just check the leds and it has to work :)
regards, Bart.

I had my spoiler added on after my accident, so i have that light, AND the inside windshield one, its cool. As for going out, it works fine, except I did notice they wired it to my amplifier?? ... it works I guess..good luck, let us know how it goes
