Shift Lock Sticks on Automatic Transmission 1992 Altima

I am very frustrated by the mechanism that disables the shift lever when the car is in PARK and the brake is not applied. This takes a few minutes to resolve each time I drive, but as soon as I unstick it, it is unstuck for the duration of that ride.

I see why this exists, but there is a problem with this one because I can stand on the brake with both feet and all my weight and the button to enable the shift lever to move does not budge pressing on it hard with both hands.

Obviously there is a lack of "communication" between the shift lever and the brake pedal. I can't seem to figure it out.

Has anyone ever seen this? What suggestions, if any does anyone have? Any tricks or tips to resolve?

Any help would be appreciated. :worshippy

Thanks,
pickymiss

I'm having the same problem on my 1994 altima. It is very annoying. I tried putting it in Neutrel with the E-Brake, but then my battery dies.

Someone please help!

Hey man i had this same problem in my 1994 nissian altima, there is a cable that runs from your ignition switch to your shifter assy. I completely dissabled it by removing the steering colom covers and detatching the cable at the Ignition Switch.

In my case it seemed that some coke had spilled from the cupholder and had gummed up the mech @ the gear shifter..so i just dissabled the whole thing to prevent future occurances ( that and the fact that i was stuck at a gas station almost 600miles from home)

LOL hope that helps
