'97 golf Gti 2.0 tranny prob

-My tranny(5spd) seems to have trouble shifting into first for a dead stop, and doesnt shift as smooth as it did when i first got it. It will also grind sometimes into first(yes the clutch is ALL the way in) Reverse is a problem too. I have to put it into first or second and then reverse or i grind. What gives?
-Is there any diffrence between the tranny in a 2.0 golf and golf gti 2.0
and the ones in europe.
Any help would be great.

No, theres no difference. Try changing your gearbox oil. Just like everyone else, i recommend MTL Redline.
