My 4l60e tranny has a bad torch converter and overdrive band. It also is giving a 1870 code. I have 3 options at this point: 1) buy a used tranny 2) rebuild my current tranny 3) buy a factory remanufactured or new tranny. What would bethe best choice and why? Thanks.

Well, if you are looking for performance then get a good performance rebuild by a reputable company. The 4l60e tranny is not meant to handle a lot of power neither is the rear-end in those cars. But if you just want a stock replacement they are like 1400 from a kragen auto parts or something. A good performance rebuild will probably be upwards of 2g's. But is well worth it if you are going to be putting a lot of power down. And I would never buy a used one. You never know if it was abused or taken care of or what. And what a lot of people dont know is that with these transmissions it is recomended that you get them serviced every 10-15 thousand miles, but most people dont even do it every 100 thousand...

check out last months GMHTP. They rebuilt a 4L60E to take 500 or so HP. A "nice-rice" purple WS6 is on the cover.
