I have a 1987 iroc with a 700R4 transmission it shift great but it develop a rubbing noise only in drive and increases with speed. No change when I pull the TV cable. I change the fulid and tried 2 bottles of lucus honey teatment and no change. I have taking the rear tail of the trans off and by turning by hand it make a sqeaking nosie. So I confirm it no the driveshaft or rear end. I'm thinking it a be a internal bearing or bushing. Any help, ideas or suggests would be greatly appreciated. Don't what to take trans out of car.I haved the car for two years and it just started making the noise. It doesn't may the noise in park or reverse. the sound only increase with speed not RPM's.I check the pressure reading and they are as follow
park 45lbs.
R 90lbs
N 45lbs
OD 45lbs.
D 45lbs.
2 160-170lbs vibrating
1 160-170lbs vibrating
park just pull TV cable 155 release drop to 75 and back to 155lbs.
the mount is in good shape.
I have the car up on jacket stands with drive shaft and tail end off and by turning the out put shaft of the transmission by hand it make a screaching noise.
Could a clogged filter cause this problem??

Thank's Ace

I'm not sure I can be of any help. My daughter has a 94 Camaro that was experiencing some of the symtoms you have in your posting. The Chevy house told her it was a carrier bearing. but they had to replace the complete driveshaft assembly because the carrier bearing was not available?

Hate to bring bad news, but it sounds like you need your trany rebuilt. If it's screathing when you trun the output shaft then it's internal problems. It could be your clutches or hard parts, but could possibly be the neadle bearings. I don't know a whole lot about auto trannies, but I know enough to know that you can't fix it while it's in that car, and probalby not fix it yourself. Trany rebuilds are expencive however. You might want to look into buying a new one.

92RS is right. it aint a simple fix, gotta pull it and tear it down. probly a gear let loose or some other internal part. not something to tackle yourself if you dont know what your doing. i know a lot about camaros, but its mostly engine stuff, i wont touch a trans.

Jim, thats not right, you got taken. if all it needed was a carrier bearing, they could have ordered a carrier bearing. and had it there within a few days, if not that day. whatever dealership did that, i would not go back to. trust me i work at a dealership, and thats not how problems are solved.
