RACER D12

Well I just wanted to know what you all thought of the new English version of Initial D? I just watched the first battle which is eposodes 1-3 and cant wait to buy battle 2. I thought it was good and I liked the "add ins" in the tricked out part. This is my first time seeing initial D. I knew of it but never saw it and now im hooked! I also watched the classic part too which is in Jap and I thought they did a good job translating.

Bunta does not sound like an old pervert
Natsuki (NOT NATALIE) is not a 9 year old girl
Natsuki is NOT a maid for "Papa", she is a whore, prostitute, do you understand? She sleeps with the guy for money, she is a high school girl selling her body for cash. Why do you think he is rich? TokyoPop takes this out, Takumi finds out and he goes to race the Evo3 (Kyouichi Sudou, NOT KYLE) so how are they going to show a reason for Takumi (NOT TAK) racing the Evo3?
Takumi (NOT TAK) is 18, not 50
Itsuki (NOT IGGY) does not ever say YO WHAT UP DUDE
NAWSS FOR MY AE85!
They do NOT fly down the mountain with their exhaust screaming
BAHBAHBAHBAHBAHBAHBAHBAH
Not all of the cars in the movie sound like Civics
Not alll of the cars sound like they have universal exhaust.
Nevermind, not like you would understand. The translation sucks. You are just another sheep/drone that will follow Initial D, love it, buy the FCKING CARD GAME, read the JACKED UP MANGA, and all the other crap that comes along. Then you will come along forums going HEY I LIKE TOKYOPOP only to piss off all of the fans. I hope you _ _ _ (not really, but if you continue liking TokyoPop...)

Jeff For Sale, I've tried to stay reasonable on this because you tend to know your stuff and are a fellow fan of the series, but I have to take a stand here.
SHUT THE FUCK UP!
Tokyopop was trying desperately to get their series on the air. If you have anyone to complain at, then take your bitching to the networks that after demanding changes to the series still refused to air it.
The dub is atrociously written, this is true, but it is well acted. Crisipin Freeman (also the English voice of Hideki Motosuwa from Chobits) as Iketani was a brilliant casting move. David Lucas as Keisuke (Lucas also the voice behind Spike Spiegal from Cowboy Bebop and Roger Smith from Big O) is less stellar, but certainly well done. The Natsuki situation, well, that's a bit different. It becomes a major plot point in Second Stage and I'm very doubtful they'll be able to handle it well.
Now here's a funny little tidbit, I got a chance to speak with Stuart Levy, the CEO of Tokyopop. The topic was specifically Intial D (interview was done for an anime news website) and one of the questions asked was "Have you spoken to Shuichi Shigeno about the changes made to Initial D and is he upset?"
Here was the response.
"You'll never believe this, but Shigeno-san laughed. He told me 'Do you think it matters what slang the characters use? So long as they sound like children.' The man completely assured me that what I was doing to appease the censors was fine with him, and I wouldn't have done this without his consent. A lot of other companies, like DIC and 4Kids, make changes to anime that the anime's creators don't approve of. When I founded Tokyopop, I wanted to make sure that I'd never do something like that."
Do I watch the dub? Not particularly. I watched it to have an opinion on it and I watch the sub because I prefer the original music. Do I buy the manga? Yes. Do I play the card game? No, I don't like CCG's. Am I going to lambast every person who prefers the dub? No. Because, quite frankly, they're no less a fan of the series than I am simply because they watch a different form.
Remember, Macross fans welcomed Robotech viewers into their fold in the 80's. It should be no different for us. Stuart Levy is no Carl Macek. Don't make him out to be.

Bah, I stand corrected, but only on my views about ID.
Macross fans only accepted it for so long. After the author stopped approving of it, dont forget the compan made their own series (a freaking season of it too) and passed it off as the actual ROBOTECH...still today, many Macross fans are STILL pissed off and are trying (but it wont work) to return it to its original state. Yes I know Im not helping the scene any, and my bitching isnt going to get it anywhere, but still....

i watched them in japanese with english subtitle, Natsuki calls the old guy "papa", but they never stat the fact that she is having sex with that dude, it just said she is "seeing" the guy(whatever that means).
The english dub DOES make things sound stupid and not original though, i am not a big fan of the dub, i like the japanese version. the sound effect for cars are much better, with blow off valves, turbo and shit

Yo, bukkake, Jeff already cried uncle.
You bring up a good point, although later on she also mentions that he's seen her without all her clothes (and calls him a pervert for it) and Miki in 3rd Stage also insinuates that she was very "willing" with his father. Who, by that time, we are led to believe is the Benz driver.
In case you're not up to 3rd Stage yet, Miki is the guy Takumi punched out in the locker room, also Natsuki's ex-boyfriend.

it doesnt matter if its in english or japanese, the cantonese version is the worst

The fact that your name is "bukake" is disturbing...nevertheless
The cantonese version does suck :p
but later on in the Japanese versions in 1st Stage around episode 1?, if you read it after the credits, in the captions the fansubbers pointed out that Natsuki was actually selling herself to "Papa" for money, they just didnt put it in the captions they subbed. It was a matter in the 90s (when Initial D was around) and is resolved now. It was just infered.
