I think that the 3000GT is a great car but why the heck are they so heavy? What is the best way to lighten on of them, can you buy a fiberglass body? Is it possable to bring one down to 3000lbs without having to spend 20k.

I don't know if you'll be able to trim down to 3000 at all but by getting lighter rims, carbon fiber hood and removing the spare and back seat, you can save a few hundred pounds. The grand total of that is hell of a lot less then 20K (or the like)

yogs had very good advise as always! (he's the almighty yogs... end of story) that couple of hundred pounds is plenty!! ppl bitch all the time bout 'em bein so heavy, blah blah blah, well to put things into perspective for ya... a VR-4 and a Trans-Am weigh out almost identicaly, however the TA (with a new LS1 in it) is puting out 310hp, whereas the VR-4 is puting out 320 and is awd... but u never hear ppl bitchen bout a their camaro Z-28 or Trans-Am bein "so dam heavy"... and their not even pushin what the VR-4 is... next, u think the couple of hundred pounds u save with yogs suggestion is rather "insignificant"? well the (imo) over hyped toyota supra weighs 200 less than the VR-4 coupe... a measly 200! not exactly a large diff.! AND stock for stock the VR-4 takes the supra tt. i rest my case. however the lightening techiniques yogs suggested are still a good idea, and deff something id do, provided i could afford the ligher weight rims and CF hood! lol money always seems to be the issue in this field! so yeh, :2cents: , GL !

I call the 3000GT heavy because it weighs 1000lbs more that a J-spec Rx7 which has the same hp. That is a very big difference, I know that the awd system adds about 250lbs but still thats alot of extra weight. Of course I know the some of our muscle cars are heavier but they are made of cast iorn and steel. There is nothing wrong with the 3000GTs weight but if I want to race I want it as light as I can.
