Another 86 GTI swap

I need to swap out my 1.8L from my 86 GTI, I would like a boost in power, and would like to go with something turbo. What would be the easiest swap for this? What Year, and Model could I get it out of?

put the 1.8t motor in cause thats exactly what i was gonna do, get a mk2 gti and put the 1.8t in it, best way to go man it will be great

a 1.8t swap isnt easy, you have a LOT of choices for a mk2. theres the 8v turbos,16v, vr6, even vr6 turbos, 20v T

how much money do u want to spend, and how fast do u want to go?

I know for a fact its easier to do a VR6 in a 90-92 jetta/golf/gti. The plugs will plug right in. But, it's still doable in an 85-89 model. Do what you like. It's gonna be a screamer! :naughty:

i agree wit bobby a well tuned golf can whoop any civic. and think bout this honda drivers. we dont need to downshift or wait till a million rpms to get some real HP. VWs have torque and power on demand. i have vws and a honda

It depends on what you're going for.

Don't use a Vr6 they're too heavy for the Mk2 (understeer galore). You could easily get any Honda out there with a Mk3 2.0l longblock and a turbo.
The 1.8T is really good, but really expensive, you need a lot more than just the engine to get it settled.
The 16v is easy to do and fairly cheap. They also alow for endless tuning. You can supercharge it, turbo it, put some roudy throttle bodies on it (my personal choice).

You could also put a G60 into it from a Corrado. You gotta love (or hate) that 'charger.
Is your engine blown, or are you just swapping it out?

Oh, and MK2.9VR6. The 20vT and the 1.8T are the same engine.
