I've been thinking about doing a swap and it's not going to be on my present car it's going to be on an 90-91 si i plan on buying in the next year or so.
I may or may not be interested in turbo charging i plan to use this for a daily driver w/ very occational weekend racing, i plan to go supercharger if possible, small turbo if not, i'm not looking to double the hp of the engine, and i'm not interested in excessive tuning due to durability issues. all i want is around 200 hp and around 130 - 150lb-ft of torque. (very roughly)
please explain your openion and don't just say which engine you want an leave.

B16A because its cheaper and you can get a shorter geared tranny, and with an LSD.
B17s are kinda expensive because they're kinda rare.

id get a 92-94(single airbag) dx,cx hb or dx coupe since it weighs the same as Si and has more room to carry junk. Id then do a H22 swap. but other wise a Id get a 89 Si since the bumpers look way better than 90-91 and b16 since its cheaper than b17 and no obd like b16a2 and b17

B17 just to be different.....I've never heard of one in a 4th gen so why not.....although it is a lot more expensive it would be cool I think

Well the b16a is going to be the easiest swap, since it almost bolts right in.
The b16a2 has a hydro tranny, and your si has a cable tranny, so you're going to have get a hydro set up.
The b17 would be a really hot swap, and I'd be crazy jealous, but it is going to cost more, due to it being very rare.
Screw getting a RSX. A fourth gen has more class. :sunglasse

getting a b17a becuase it has slightly more torque = makes sense.
getting a b17a becuase it would be "a crazy hot swap and make u jealous" = gay
justifying paying extra money for a b17a = impossible.
get a b16a 2nd gen and use a cable clutch.

Well do you want to be original and get an engine that costs a lot. Or do you want a reasonably priced engine for the power will a wide array of bolt on and aftermarket parts avaliable??
I would go with the b16a just because parts are everywhere. But it would be awesome to be original and put in a b17.

B16a and b17 are the same motors actually. The only difference is the crank and of course the obd0 and obd1. You can buy the b16a and buy the b17 crank and it'll stroke it up to 1.7 ;)

For the kind of money you'd be paying for a B17A (which yes, is basically the same as the B16) why not just put some money down for a B18C?
That would seem to make sense to me. :screwy:

Start saving now and get an RSX Type R Motor.
By the time you've saved up, Hasport will have the mount kit out. 220hp and around 160lb. ft. Should satisfy your goals...
edit* Since that really isnt answering your question, a b16 with a 75 shot of nitrous should give you some good numbers and well be easier to accomplish then finding a good b17 swap.

one of the reasons i put the b17a1 on this poll is cause i met a guy who put one in his 91 rex si.
he told me he loves it and can't feel the weight diff between the 1.6 and the 1.7, and i like wierd shit, if i got a supercharger for it or ported it could be kinda neat, but i'm not going to go out of my way and pay out the ass to get a b17. however no hunting for proper components to pass emission standards.
and currently don't have the si, :frown: it's a planned purchase now that i'm making $1,200 a month and soon to get a raise and only have $250 in bills a month.
would you need a mount kit for the b17, the bay of the 2g teg is EXACTLY like the bay of our 4g civics from what i've heard, all i would need is acura motor mounts i hear.

The B16A and B17A are externally the same engine, did you read the post? There's no difference between the two.
You need a mount kit for ANY B series into a 4th gen.

i read the post, but your the only one i've heard this from, and the b17 is rated at 160 hp, roughly the same as the b16, but i don't have to mix match parts for that, and i can get a vin to check how it's been treated.
basically usdm vs. jdm arguement.
so i'm guessing i just need to buy the hasport b16 mount kit for a b17a1, but yes or no: 2g teg engine bay has same mounts as 4g civic.

nope. you need a mount kit for any b-series in a 4th gen civic. look up people swapping in b18a's...they use mount kits, and the engine is out of a 2nd gen teg.

Oh, and just because I only have intake on my HF means im a loser? Why? Because I don't want to put money into an engine that I plan to swap out in the next month or so? Whats so wrong about that? Just because I ONLY have intake, means that I don't know what I'm talking about?
Or is it because its an HF? Jeez sorry that I wanted the lightest model crx, besides for the 88-89 hf that had the seatbelts on the floor and not in the doors, to get the most out of performance, I guess thats not cool? Whatever man. Grow up.

thats the whole problem with the import scene. everybody does something because its "hot" or because someone else will like it.
i dont see why a stroked b16 that doesnt rev as high and makes a couple more ft/lb of torque would make anybody "crazy jealous".
there is a reason they only made the b17a1 for two years. stop being so trendy in thinking something that is rare is somehow raised up to being a "HOT SWAP y0!"

It seems like everyone needs to chill about other people's opinons are on their shit. Like, don't ask for opinions if you want honesty, because there are a few people here who will deliver.
I say don't ask for opinions at all, or share an idea, but do what you're going to do because its what you feel YOU want to do. Then if people don't like it, fuck 'em because its YOUR car. And if you're not building your car for the sole reason of that being exactly what YOU want, you need to question why you're even modding a car.

get the b16a. they are cheap, they are numerous, and easy to find parts for. try to find a b17 crank if you happen to mess yours up.
Like i said, there is areason they only made the B17A1 for two years....it was too similar to a B16A and not as much torque as the 1.8L engines..

Well theres alot of ways to do it. Any internal mods done to your motor will increase torque. For all motor you're not gonna really see much gains. For turbo , thats a different story. You'll see the big increase in torque.

Why are people so stuck up on torque though? Saying the B16 is a torqueless wonder and all that bullshit!? Torque and HP is the same damn thing!
The thing about the B16 is when you're actually racing it, the RPM never drops really below 6,000 or so.. So what would it matter if you're making peak torque at 5,500? I'll take 180hp and 120lbs-ft any day. :) (B16 with some minor bolt ons)

torque and hp are not the same thing, but i know what you mean, about how when you have the b16 those torque numbers dont really matter when your racing because you can really feel the car pull.
but if you've ever driven in a b18 or b20 you can feel a difference in the power band because you get torque so much better in the lower rpms. even though the peak torque numbers are not that far off. the way both engines make power is quite different. look at some dynos between both engines.
