My Camaro

As many of you know, my 1:1 car is a 2000 Camaro SS, and heres my tribute to one of the greatest new/extinct (stopped production in fall of 2002) muscle cars. As with this kit (Revell's 2002 Camaro SS 35th anniv ed.) and the 1:1, the Camaro comes with one of the greatest engines. The LS1, which is also used in the C-5, and is the base of the LS6 engine IN the Z06/LS6. This one will have a pair of Z06 Rims, and will be a hardtop. So far, all i've done was putty the front facia up. Its pretty inaccurate, and i re-carved one of the body lines. This will also feature a pair of Corvette fuel rail covers, and the SLP front mount license plate holder. (like on the 1:1 car) If you want some 1:1 pics check out http://www.cardomain.com/id/camarossboy346 . Also check out page 3 :icon16: . aND YES, IT WILL BE SILVER.

Very cool. Keep us posted and post lots of pics. I love Camaros. Awesome, powerful, and very beautiful cars.
very beautiful 1:1 car you have there too. How is the mpg, and the insurance on it?

Can`t wait to see this one! Then again, I am partial to SLP cars for some reason. :D
it can get 19 MPH when i dont have a heavy right foot. But it gets 17 MPG most of the time.
You are talking city right? I was able to get 30-35 mpg on the highway fairly easily when mine was stock. Even with the supercharger and new fuel system, I would imagine I am still up over 25 mpg city. Not bad for 525hp, huh? :)
what kinda power (kw) do they have?
Not sure what "kw" means, but they are advertised at 320HP, which is about what most dyno at the wheels. This is about 350-370HP at the crank. 0-60mph times would be high 4 seconds to low 5 seconds. Quarter mile times are low 13`s typically (mine went 13.2 with bad traction), and a good driver will get it in the 12`s with drag radials. At the end of the strip, you will be doing 108-112mph approximately, according to what I was running. Top speed is a governed 159mph.

Also, nice to see you correcting some of Revell's mistakes.

Hey this is cool..making a model of your own car  No excuse for any innacuracies :iceslolan Cool thing is you can try stuff out to see wether it'd look goon on your real car like lowering or different wheels.
It's rare to see these late Camaros over here..shame they stopped making them.
Is that a Datsun 510 tuner I see in the background there ? :naughty:

My times were made on a drag calculator. 13.57 @ 105 EST. 307 (?) RWHP EST. 325 RWTQ EST. All i know is, on these country roads it pulls harder then anything i've ever driven. I also have to get my car checked, i think it has a custom exhaust system. Its alot louder then all the other SS's in my area (about 5 or 6) I just gotta get my spare tires on the back so i can light 'em up (and once i get my garage built). The fastest 100% stock Z28 (non SS) was ran to a 12.98 W/ a T56, driven by Evan Smith. The fastest SLP car is also a 12.9 called "Orange Crush" a Sunset Orange WS6 T/A. (Just to compare, the Mustang 2001 GT 4.6 2v only runs 14.9, and the 4v (Cobra) only runs 14.3 or so). Also check out some of the pics i took from Richmond Int'l. Tmes are written on the windows, check some of the times out* Also, (GM) HP numbers increased by 5 with the 2001 model line up (320-325), and of course, the SLP LE SS which makes 345 HP. Although, i couldnt get the LE edition.... 17.5 for a standard SS with 38,662 miles.. who could pass that up..heh. Although it know has close to 60K miles. But im driving it less and less, so eventually time will catch up.

http://images.cardomain.com/member_images/10/web/370000-370999/370008_106_full.jpg This SS only has a hypertech chip. Its a chip for automatics (like mine) so when you drive at WOT the transission will shift at redline.

Someone sent me one of those from the States. Hehe..I noticed that they had a six cylinders under the hood! :iceslolan
A 12 second 1/4 is incredible for any factory car. I'm amazed that 4.6 litres of mustang only runs 14.9. My 510 ran 14.85 the first time I ever took it to the strip and that was with a feeble launch ...the hard launch on the previous run busted the diff :eek7: and I busted it's replacement on the run after :cwm27: Two diffs in three runs...I went home after that (on a tow rope  )
There's not much here in the UK with the kind of muscle a V8 has. My 510 is quick and fun but V8 deliver the power so differently. I have a '69 Javelin (http://www.ratdat.com/jav) and the torque that has is unreal. It was used exclusively for amateur drag racing for years and in it's hey day (early 80's) ran mid 11's. The best in it's current guise is 13.01. I love it even though it's hopless at going round corners or stopping :cwm27:

You have an automatic Camaro? You're kidding me, right? This has to be a joke.

Hi CamaroSSBoy346,
Cool I can help someone out. I usually lurk and learn from everyone else
I bet you are using model putty, testors?
Use really automotive putty.
I use EverCoat (brand) Metalworks 100420 Easy Sand (flowable polyester Finishing and blending putty).
You can get it at bodyshops or stores that sale auto paint.
Don't forget to get the small tube of catalyst. You can get that at Wal-Mart. I tried Bondo from Wal-Mart but it is nowhere as good as EverCoat. I think Bondo is better than model car putty though.
That stuff will not let you down. It is so awesome, it can fill the smallest imperfections and will stay on your model when you sand.
Your Camaro is nice. American muscle, best performance for the price
I own my 1999 Nissan Sentra and when I finish college I am getting a Camaro or maybe a Mustang. I like the early 90s Camaro. I will keep my Sentra and build me one bad camaro probably a 383 stroker or something, then some nice fat low profile rims and tires (G-machine). I should draw a picture :)

I knew that you had to pop another under the hood with your hands, but still, it wouldn't be to safe to be doing that, would it? I heard that if you even just pop it up just from inside, you could make it pop up when your driving. I don't know. Maybe what I heard before was wrong.

Eugene, as far as I know it can't pop right open, I made a few speed runs at the track with my corolla nothing near as fast as my truck but slamming the gears is one helluva rush. I flipped up my headlights, removed the right one (air tube is right behind it) and poped my hood and made 3 passes and it never flew open, fastest run was a 15.95 or so, not bad if you consider it's pretty stock 4banger with a 5spd. BTW mike, use some bondo, that should work good.

lol. Yeah. Its really funny how ford needs to supercharge everything to be faster then the GM Cars. Hell, even SVT almost filed for bankruptcy. The only NON Supercharged (SVT Focus) was a total 16 second dud. And dont be a pussy and say "oh the mustang only has a 4.6" If for was so fucking great, they would have put the 5.4 in it like the Cobra R. But, i guess their too cheap to do that. And, actually it depends where you live. I mean, if you set a drag strip up in death vally the LS1 could easily cut 12.6. Put a track up in colorado and watch it run 13.9

For could easyily make a 500HP N/A 5.4 or even a 4.6 liter. If everything that wasnt N/A was bad that rules out most of the cars you see on the road today....

I don`t want to get into a Ford/GM debate because I like both F-Bodies and Mustangs. But a 6 spd LS1 will easily run 13.2, and it is not out out of reach for an automatic. I know because my `01 Trans Am and my `99 Firehawk both ran it stock, with traction problems. The `01 hit 111mph, and would easily be in the 12`s with a set of drag radials. This was at Cecil County Raceway which is very close to sea level. And as far as the Cobra, they will be pretty close to a `01-`03 SS/Firehawk in acceleration. There is more parasitic loss because of the IRS in the Cobra, plus the hp figures for the f-bodies are underated (many dyno at 310+ *at the rear wheels*) so it pretty much equals out. But I think both cars are great cause they both have V8`s. :) :)

"but ive seen right in front of my face a 03 cobra turn down a 12.628@ 113.82 MPH at my local 1/4 track. "
I've seen 3 O3 cobras in my area. Never saw one at the track, let alone a pre 03 cobra. I guess cobra owners are to afraid to race lol j/k :thefinger
Anyways, heres progress. To say the least its not comming out to well. The stance is wrong even though it was lowered 1.5 MM, the front wheels have too much of a camber, lost one of the wheels, got the super glue acid/fog on my front windshield; now i cant get it out, and the putty cracked.

then i accidently put orange paint on the wrong side (supposed to be at bottom; me being lazy and just using the refrance pics on box)

The Cobra R DOES have a 5.4 in it, Also in 95 they had a 5.8 liter in it. So i guess the fact that they are "Supercharged" means there bad? For could easyily make a 500HP N/A 5.4 or even a 4.6 liter. If everything that wasnt N/A was bad that rules out most of the cars you see on the road today....
Josh
That doesn't really matter. He's not saying that their bad. What he's trying to say is that GM has a N/A, and then Ford has to supercharge everything to beat GM. If they took that supercharger off of there and had it N/A against N/A, the Mustang would get smoked.
I think you should drop this GM vs. Ford crap. Big deal, you like Ford's, he likes Chevy. WOW!!! Lets go and fight on the internet about it, and guess what? Not lead anywhere. WOW!!! So interesting.
Mike: Are you going to paint the roof black like the real one, or just leave it silver?
