Explorer 4.0 ohc block/pan ladder girdle?

I'm told that this engine is fitted with a ladder girdle to stiffen the lower half of the block. Can anybody tell me if this is correct and to which year/engine the girdle was fitted. I'm having a job finding one. Thanks.
