Hello, my name is Jonathan Keffer, and I just became the proud owner of a 1982 Subaru 1600 4 door sedan with the H4 engine. I know the displacement is something like 97 CID, but what is the horsepower? It can't be more than 100 HP I would suspect. This engine was recently rebuilt, and runs smooth. Unfortunatly it didnt come with a turbo charger. Can I find a simular engine with the turbo and retrofit it?
Is this a sturdy reliable engine? seems somewhat of a novelty, a horizontal piston engine. I thought only volkswagen and porsche did that. When did subaru start using this engine?
What kind of fuel economy can I look forward to with this engine? I was told it was somewhere around 40 MPG, but that doesnt sound right. Can anyone help me?
Anyway, I have talked your ear off enough, thanks in advance,
Jonathan Keffer

Where have you been living, a cave?
All Subaru's now come with a flat four engine, the only exception being some Legacy's that come with a flat six.

YUP! Good on SUBBY'S. I am on Subaru # 8 or 9, I lost count. Started with a 1600cc and now I am up to a 2200. All have been pancake engines. Very Reliable....(the CV boots WILL tear on you, get use to it)
