has anyone modified a d16y5 engine (vtec-e)? I talked with a local shop about a swap but the guy told me he recently built one around 380 hp. and to keep my y5. he showed me pics of the car, show quality. but is he feeding me a line?

well i bet he spent quite a bit to make a d16y5 have 380 hp. and i highly doubt he did it without nitrous, turbo, or supercharger. please let us know about his set up because i know no one likes vtec-e because its all about getting good gas milage. but im very interested on what his setup is.

if the d16y5 is anything like the 92-95 d15z1 VTEC-e, then it runs in 12 valve mode until "VTEC", at which it switches to 16b valve mode. If so, by simply running the VTEC solenoid open all time, you have a standard d16 16v SOHC engine which can be modded like any other.
