2500 Crew Cab!?!

I stopped by a couple dealers on Sunday, just to browse around, I want to get rid of the LHS when I graduate in May. So I was looking at the used stuff they had sitting on the lot, then I looked at the TrailBlazers, not the EXT, I don't like those. Then I made my way across the lot and looked at the Silverados.
They had a 2500 crew cab. Not a 2500HD, but a regular 2500. It was a 2004. I thought it was pretty cool. I knew GM was coming out with a SRW 3500, (it's about time), but I didn't know about the crew cab 2500.
Then I got to thinking, why doesn't GM just drop the 2500HD moniker, and do what Ford and Dodge do, use 150(0), 250(0), and 350(0). They could use the current 2500 (light duty) frame for the 1500. Use the 2500HD frame for the new 2500, and I guess keep the 3500 as-is. So you could have GVWR's of up to 8,600 lbs. on the 1500, 9,200 lbs. on the 2500 (like the current 2500HD) and 11,?00, on the 3500. It is 11 something right?
