2.3 or 2.4

97 Talon TSI AWD. I was trying to decide which stroke I wanted to go with. The 2.3 is the stroker limit for the 4g63 block. I can change blocks and make 2.4. Both can bolt on 4g63 heads. Company in Lansing Michigan, Fasterthanyou.com offers good prices on all there engine work. Think that . 1 of a liter is worth a block swap?

The real question isnt how much more that .1 liter is worth, but how comfortable you are with a short piston with a high pin. The 4g63 block is 6mm shorter than the 4g64 etc, so the wrist pin is moved up 6mm to compensate. The rod angles and rod ratios are the same, so no real advantage either way there, though both are "worse" than the 2 liter. Another thing to consider is that the 4g63 and 4g64 are supposedly the same casting, or at least very similar. And since the bore centerlines are the same (they have to be or the heads would be interchangeable) taking a 4g63 bore out from stock 85mm to 86.5mm, which is 060 over, would leave the same wall thickness a 2.4 liter block would have, and often 2.4s are bored out pretty good when they are built up. So theoretically you can have the full 2.4 liters ;) But I havent verified this with my own eyes, or at least someone's I trust. Switching the block would make some poeple rest easier about the piston pin height, but there is some work to do inorder to get a 2.4;iter block into a DSM. Not quite plug and play, but not terribly difficult either. You could really go either way, but most poeple tend to go with the stroker for cost and complexity advantages. Doesnt really answer your question, but I hope it helps somehow.

Well, from what I have seen the stroking kit has proven reliable when done with quality parts. But the more I think about it, 2.3 would be the best bet. For money reasons and the fact that it's still a 4G63 when I get done with it, not a hybrid. My question was based on output numbers. Obviously there are few replacements for displacement but is that . 1 of a liter going to be noticeable for my application?

Not really. Thats only 4% difference. Since the stroke is the same as the 2.4, it will be very close in the end...

With this setup what turbo options could i run for quick spool with boost hold till redline. I was figuring 20g would be cool since the engine could spool it up even faster after the stroker mods

A 20g will actually prove to be a very mild turbo on a stroker. I had no trouble maxing out the 20g airflow wise on a 2.0. A stroker is going to move 20-25% more air. A well setup stroker could max out a 20g at 20 psi ;) But thats good. More airflow at the same or lower boost is the whole point. If one decides to go with a larger turbo, look for a nice horizontal map.

Oh yeah, i checked out your website. I like the 17" Mazda rims. What year did they come off of, about how much per rim?

I paid 400 for all of them, and the Dunlop 4ks were worth 600 ;) I'm not sure what year they came on. I read an article on a maxima in Modified that said he had 15" milenia wheels that weighed 15 lbs. So there must be different ones to choose from...

400 bucks and only about 17 pounds that's a deal if you ask me. I'll look around and see if there are any other 17 inch light stock rims that will fit. What would you recommend the offset to be about?

I can never remember what the DSM offset is supposed to be. I believe its 42 but look it up on dsm.org to be sure. At any rate, the Mazda wheels all have the wrong offset. In my case new tires will rub on the suspension and smoke for the first day or two. After that they are "custom fit." :D Most poeple that run the Rx7 wheels use spacers, so I think the offset on those might be worse.
